Have just spent a weekend at Akebar Park. I was very wary of going somewhere that wanted there reviews blocked! My ohter concern was that they wouldn't take bookings! Thats a first for me.
Anyway we were going with friends who had been a few years before and said it was nice, so we gave it a go.
I must say that the Woman on the reception was incredibly unhelpful, which is always a nice start to your holiday. Even asking what I thought was a reasonable question, of 'what is the Amp rating for the pitch electric?', she looked at me like I was stupid and said she had no idea, but scribbled on a map to show me the area that tripped out the most !!!!
Our friends said afterwards that the site had been taken over by statics, and I think they really couldn't be bothered with tourers anymore.
We were told we could find our own pitch. But there are no numbers or pitch markings anywhere, so it was a bit of a free for all.
There appeared to be only one toilet block, which was obviously quite old. The showers needed tokens for the hot water, and they were very small with no where to sit. When I was there there was mud all over the floor all the time. No bucket and mop. And kids had obviously gone mad with the soggy toilet roll on the walls !!! That was probably why out of 4 toilets only 1 had any loo roll in it!
The play ground had a few swings and a slide, but they had a few Little Tikes climbing things and slides which would have been good if they weren't dangerously broken!
The site is in a beautiful location, and could be something quite special but I get the distinct feeling that the owners can't be bothered. I'm sure they rake in enough money from all the Statics!
I'm sure I sound very picky, and maybe thats because I'm used to the quality of Caravan Club sites, but its not even that its that cheap at £21 a night for caravan, hook-up, 2 adults, 1 child(over5) and dog.
Sorry guys, rant over!
