We are finding touring, like alot of people are as getting too expensive, and were thinking about joining one of the clubs and start going to cl's. I was looking through an old caravan club handbook and noticed that some adverts mentioned lawned pitches and others didnt. Does this mean if we go to one that dosent say lawned the grass could be a foot long?
Any thoughts would be great

Don't forget to leave a review of the campsites you have visited this year or last!
The grass is usually cut/mown, sometimes on a field it is left lying around when cut and bits can get in the van but we don't find this a problem, just take a hoover (we always have ehu). I think "lawned" is just that, a mown lawn nearish the site owners house, or an old orchard, otherwise you might find a cut edge of a field. Have never experienced foot high grass. We are members of both clubs so we can use CLs/CSs, most are fine.
CL's come in all varieties some are like mini high class campsites and some basic to say the least and a lot in between. As an alternative the Caravan Club have a series of sites called 'Super Seven' they do not have toilets or showers but will have electrics and some have hardstandings all for the price of £7 a night with no extras. This is cheaper than most CL's with the same facilities. If you go onto the Caravan Club website I think you can look at them without being a member.

There are seven campsites, one in Wales and six in England. The charge is £7 a night for 2 adults and all children and it does include electrics. Extra adults do pay extra.
Re the grass question: we have been to two N Yorks CL's recently (£7 & £8) a night neither mentioned "lawn" however one was almost worthy of lawn status but on the second , though a great site, the farmer seemed to only cut the grass down to about 2 or 3 inches length.
All the CLs and CSs we have stayed on have been very different. Price ranges from £7 to £16 and price has not reflected the facilities. One was cheap and had stunningly clean loo and shower, one of the more expensive had a cobwebby loo and no electric so had to use a torch and no loo paper available. Another site was in a horrible field surrounded by broken machinery and another was in the garden of a large beautiful house. We just turn up and decide whether to stay for another night or not based on what we find.
I have done reviews of the CLs we have stayed on and am doing some more when time permits.
We have never found one that has not had a certain charm and nothing so bad we cannot stay for one night. Prefer them to large sites.
I think Cls and Cs's are great, they are relatively cheap and you can get them with or without hook ups and other facilities. You are not paying for things you dont use. We belong to both clubs and find the price for belonging to both clubs more than ouweighs the cost of the Cls and Cs;s. so I say go for it.
we always stay at CLs our favourite site is Gale Riverside in loddon norfolk perfect location next to the river have been going there for 19 years have to be lucky thought it books two years in advance.
If you are posting details of a site, please ensure you link to their UKCampsite.co.uk listing, not direct to their website, to enable reviews etc to be read.
Now you have joined the club, you can save even more by going on a rally with them. Before you say your not really a rally person, don't knock it until you try it. I used to say exactly the same thing, but now were all hooked. We haven't used a "site" for over a year!
There is a site called which has many CLs etc, along with photographs which give a good idea of what the site will look like. I've used this several times and the sites have all been great.
