Does anyone know a site in the Lakes which will take bookings for this weekend. I have tried a few and they are first come first served. Only needs to be suitable for Tents, preferably in the Ambleside/Keswick area.

Hi Chile.

I and my cycling buddy, Billy pitched at "Bridge End Farm", which is at the Northern end of Lake Thirlmere, superb side fantastic drainidge I noticed, also the Shower block is tip top, for the mens, and according to my Buddy Billy the ladies was even posher, Billy I have to add is a seasond continental camper and assumes abloutions are mixed. anyway there is a very good Pub just down the road from the site, although they stop serving grub at 21.30hrs. the site is about 4 miles from Kewick, checkout Peddlers Cafe, truly superb, pitches were £3.50 although we were on the bikes cycling from Ramsbottom to Annan Scotland, something I do every year, chose July this year and avoided the wet stuff. if you google you will find the phone number, I rang ahead just to make sure they had Pitch space available.

last year we stayed at Gill Head farm, which is near to Troutbeck on the A66 and short drive to Keswick (it's on the campsite locator). We had to travel and arrive on the Sunday morning of the August Bank holiday weekend and i am sure that we rang ahead and booked as we thought we would not get in anywhere.

As it was, when we arrived the place was packed and nobody seemed aware that we had 'booked' but we had no trouble getting on. That said, they just kept taking more and more people all weekend, which was very uncomfortable but it probably demonstrates that they never consider themselves 'full' so you'd probably get on their even if they don't take bookings.

Sorry, just realised this is probably not the most promising of recommendations, but this weekend in the lakes i fear you are going to have very little choice.
