Of course we left it too late to book somewhere in the Lakes this weekend (weren't sure we were going to be able to go camping or not). So after phoning loads of places and being told "it's a bank holiday"!, I started phoning other places further away from the Lakes.

I found a small huddle of campsites in Dent, Cumbria (officially in the Yorkshire Dales). I phoned one which said it was full (HIgh Laning), and three which said just turn up (Conder Farm, Ewegales Farm and Mill Beck Farm). The full site seems to be one with lots of facilities etc, whereas two of the others (Conder and Ewegales) appear to be pretty basic facilities. No reviews for Mill Beck.

I wondered if anyone else has stayed at Mill Beck or at any of them on a bank holiday before without booking! We're going to go anyway, we're hoping that alot of people will have booked or want to go to a site with better facilities, but all we want is some peace and quiet, a pitch big enough to have a bit of privacy (even if on a slope!), not worried about the facilities too much!

Thanks,
Lorna

Never been to any of the sites but can recommed the area.

There are so many site around and about that even if you don't get to pitch there you'll prob find somthing around that has space.

Thanks, we sorted ourselves out, after checking out the Mill Beck Farm site (would have had plenty of space, but almost opposite the very busy High Laning site), Conder Farm site (absolutely packed in like sardines) and then going to Ewegales. Shall be doing a proper review, but for anyone looking for peace and quiet, and not put off by VERY basic facilities (ie a loo in an old shed with a very spiderwebby shower), it is wonderful.

Really glad you had a good time - the weather wasn't all that bad either was it.
