I've been looking through the campsite reviews, we're hoping to have a short break in the New Forest for a couple of days before schools go back, I would love to hear if anybody has got a personal favourite for this area.
We're thinking of somewhere like Roundhill - quiet, nice showers, but we're a bit concerned about waterlogged pitches. What's it's like at the moment? I would appreciate any feedback about current conditions.

Very wet from what I can gather. Was talking to a friend who was down there last week in a motorhome, she said it was very very boggy. They also had high winds and one person had the side of their motorhome ripped open when the awning took off. Not nice.
Thanks for the quick reply, that's what we're worried about, it's been an awful August. The forecast for the next few days looks more promising, though.
I think perhaps the ground might be better at Red Shoot, Linwood which is on the west side of the forest (no promises though), so perhaps you could try them.
What a horrible summer... We were down in the NF a couple of weeks ago and did get plenty of rain but quite a few dry bits too. Some of the pitches are pretty wet (we stayed on Setthorns), the site was handy to cycle ride to Brockenhurst, Lyndhurst etc. I agree with other comments and ring the sites as they are really helpful. Setthorns is quite sheltered too so winds won't be a problem, though they have no sanitary facilities.
Just back from bank holiday weekend at Red Shoot. I wouldn't let the weather put you off camping in the New Forest - the soil there is sandy and so is unlikely to get very muddy. It poured with rain Saturday evening and all night. I was checking the tent for leaks at 4am! Got up Sunday - no leaks, no water running down the groundsheet - we expected to wake up in a lake as we were at the bottom of the slightly sloping field - no puddles either.

We went to Roundhill on 14th August for one night; had arranged to meet up with friends already there but we had not booked.
We were told we could not stay the night as the ground was boggy and there was a bad weather warning for that night and the weekend. We paid the £5 to park and stayed with them for a BBQ.
As it happenned the weather was fine. We ended up camping on nephews front drive as luckily he lives down the road.
I would phone first to check as they were even phoning people who had booked and diverting them elsewhere.
I know Hollands Park was very waterlogged last week. Not quite in the midst if the forest but lovely nevertheless is Wareham Forest Tourist Park, we stayed for 12 nights end of July and loved it. Spotlessy clean and good drainage there.

We camped at Hollands Wood in the wet May Bank hol and it got quite wet. It all depends where you pitch tho. Our friends were there this weekend just passed and they said it was lovely and fine. The facilities are superb.
We went to the Red shoot for a meal and to have a look at the site. It looked really nice and the pub was good too. Worth a look at the reviews on here.
