Everyone all over the country knows that pitches were in great demand this bank holiday. So yesterday, we had booked several pitches - 1 being a tent with hookup. Mid afternoon we had a Trailer Tent turn up to book in, but they were at the wrong site, they then asked if we could fit them in! Sorry we said we are fully booked. But guess what - the original tent/hookup booking never turned up - didnt phone to say not coming - nothing.

The majority of campers/caravanners are considerate people and would phone say changed their mind, somethings happened, cannt get there etc etc - but every now and again you get one and for some reason it always seems to be on a Bank Holiday! ahahah. You might say - you have the deposit (£25), but thats not the point its only manners to let the site know surely, or am i being too hard? 

That over, hope everyone is enjoying their Bank holiday, not too much rain, and managed to find a pitch.  

Doesn't surprise me at all, it's typical of attitudes today!

We had some no-shows over the weekend too and I entirely sympathise. It is all well and good retaining the deposit - but that is still just one night and the other 2-3 nights can't always be filled. Courtesy is a lovely thing that really helps the harmony in this business :)

But.... the sun did shine, the rain only visited briefly and our site is nearly full, with genuinely happy campers - so no complaints and lots of smiles and relief!

I agree that it is only courtesy to let the site know if you're not going to show up if this is at all possible.  As Vic says, it may be some major catastrophe but if they cannot phone at the time I would expect a courtesy phone call, as soon as they are able, to apologise.  I'm sure there are a small number of people who book up sites and choose not to go due to working shifts, bad weather etc, but don't inform the site owner. 

It surprises me that site owners do not hang signs outside their site saying whether they have pitches available, like B & B's do.

Sorry Ang and Ken, it seems that it's a sign of the times that people do not take the trouble to call and cancel.

We have always checked with the sites before going and on the occassions we have had to cancel we have rang up well in advance. It's only polite to do so.
