Hi - me and my husband are planning to go to Scotland for the New Year.  Can anyone recommend a good campsite?  We live in Stoke-on-Trent and would like the journey to be as short as possible.  We are an outgoing couple and like to party so wouldnt want it to be too quiet.  Any suggestions??

Nikki and Neil

Hi Nikki and Neil, we're thinking of doing the same. We're currently considering Brighouse Bay. Been a few times over the years, although only May to October and have never been disappointed. It has a clubhouse and pool, check their website and the reviews.

My only concern would be the weather. If it snows, the site is a fair bit away from the main road. They get narrower and narrower the closer you get to the site, not a problem normally, but probably not on the priority list for gritting.

But hey, we can't control the weather. Might see you there.

Cheers, Alex.

Hi Nikki and Neil

Have a look at Brighouse bay its in the south west of scotland about 50 miles from gretna heading for stranraer.

It is a large site but not like your normal commercial site, they have a golf course. They sit in a lovely bay great for hangover walks, also have an indoor pool.

Now to the important stuff for hogmanay (new years eve) they have a party at the club house which holds about 200 it is a great night out normally have a band on and stays open till about 2am but many parties in vans. Most of the vans that turn up also bring lights and stuff and do there vans up so all very festive the only think i would say is book now if you want to go as tickets go quick. There is also loads to do in local area they have a web site gillespie liesure.

If need any other advice just ask as we only stay 25miles from it and go quite often.

Gerry

Think this year is to follow old meet friends for 2014.
If you cant do someone a good turn, don`t do them a bad one,its nice to be nice you know, and little things mean much more later in life.
Pete.

Sounds great - have just contacted Brighouse and they have availability (£112.50 for 5 nights) going to book it tommorow.  See you there?  We have a Fleetwood Heritage - come and have a drink.  Will bring our fairy lights (and Christmas tree) !!!

Thanks for all your help.

Nikki and Neil

Hi Nikki and Neil

Glad you have picked brighouse if you dont enjoy it i'll buy you a drink lol and thats saying something from a Scotsman lol.

We have a elddis autoquest 130 on a 06 plate will be parked just past the dry stane dyke.

Nikki do you have any kids if so let me know and i can recommend a few good days out with in 15 mins drive also if Neil plays golf tell him to bring his clubs its only £10 if you stay on site.

Allthough we have had bad weather this year (like everywhere) Brighouse does seem to have a micro climate we were walking down the beach on the 1st of jan last year with short sleave. We can leave Dumfries 25 miles away in heavy rain and arrive Brighouse to sunshine.

Hi Gerry - yes we do have 'kids' but we leave them at home to party party - it looks like they'll never leave home hense the caravan (we leave home instead !!!).  Have booked so will see you there - have persuaded friends to come also so will definately be partying.  Neil is bringing his golf clubs so looks like peace and quiet all round !!
