does anyone know of any sheltered well drained sites (that take large tents) around ilfracombe, mortahoe, barnstable area??? we've just come back from woolacombe bay which is so exposed and had no drainage whatsoever, tents just get wrecked!! we visited a few others but they were water logged too!! we'd love to go back to that area but need a decent site. any suggestions please???????

However well drained and "decent" a site usually is, I doubt you'd find anywhere (anywhere in the country that is, not just Devon!) that isn't soggy at the moment...

all the sites round morthoe are exposed .I belive Hidden Valley is well protected but have not stayed there, also try stowford farm (i think) never stayed there either.

North devon is a lovly area and well worth the 2nd chance and pray for the weather!!

New site, Lee Meadows farm, just outside Woolacombe, huge site and ok the entrance to site was waterlogged but rest of site was fantastically drained. Hedges also offer shelter.

The Burrows at Ruda Croyde Bay is SUPERB however it too gets waterlogged badly unless you know what pitches to go for PLUS with a tent you would need to tuck yourself behind the sand dunes for a bit of protection.

We went to Warcombe farm near Mortehoe a couple of years ago. Nice site with very good sized pitches & the most fantastic toilet block. Can't really remember the situation re drainage, but the site isn't particularly exposed I don't think.

channel veiw in a lovely site, lynton/lynmouth area, also Steart Farm,( not sure if i have spelt it correctly,)   at  Buck's mills Bideford area is nice. Someone mentioned Ruda , i don't like it here, its very exspensive and  over rated, a small place considering what they say there offering, swimming  pool is small and you have to pay to use it.

Hi, sunvalleysue, if you are posting details of a site, please ensure you link to their UKCampsite.co.uk listing, not direct to their website, to enable reviews etc to be read

We have stayed at Stowford Farm Meadows and it has about 5 or 6 fields. I know that the field furthest away from the reception is quite exposed to the wind but the other fields seemed to be a lot more sheltered. This site can be expensive in high season but has good offers on at other times.
