There are two roads into Applecross. The one from Tomapress is called the "Pass of the cattle" and with good reason! Not for the fainthearted! It is not suitable for caravans, trailer tents or anything being towed. The other road is from Sheildaig, longer but much better. They are both single track with passing places.
I have only been there by car but it is very beautiful and the campsite looks good.
------------- June
When we’re going up a hill of fortune, may we never meet a friend coming down
The campsite has the most stunning out look, above Applecross and looking out across the bay. It has a great tearoom/restaurant. There is a herd of deer that come down and graze round the tents [scared the hell out of our old dog!!] The pub in Applecross is a must for the food, people come from far and wide for their fish menu [which we can vouch for].
Yes the roads are single track and windy, but don't let that put you off. It is SOOOO worth the drive and remember and stop at the top of the Bealach na Ba, the views are tremendous!
[we love the place so much that the weekend before we got married,14 years ago, my OH and i went there with the tent to get away from everything. Then just two weeks ago we took our children there. This was the first time since that weekend that we had managed a return visit, it was still as lovely as we remembered it being. Our 12 year old thought that the views were 'the best in the world!!']
------------- My photos allow you to see what I saw at the time that I took it....No messing.
Applecross and the whole area is stunning, highly recommended. The pass of the cattle is definitely worth the drive as the view from the top feels like you are on top of the world. The pub at Applecross is lovely, right overlooking the bay. If you go northwards from Applecross the area of Torridon is breathtaking, loch Maree near Gairloch is one of our favourite places.
Dont forget your camera - as you will be taking a lot of photos!
We are off to Skye in 3 weeks and cant wait.
Don't forget to leave a review of the campsites you have visited this year or last!
we decided to stay in the camping huts for two nights but the midges were bitting and the weather was bad so we left the next day but not before we visited the pub as the food was great
