I'm considering a weekend not too far away for either the 19th or 25th September (probably my last trip out this year!).  Halifax is just a little way up the motorway from me so these two sites look quite tempting.

I'm looking for somewhere peaceful and relaxing where me and the dog can go for a nice leisurely walk on the Saturday.  Ideally something circular, not too taxing 6-8 miles maybe.

As I camp solo, the dog has to go in the car when I go to the loo/shower, so I'd love to know if the car park at Jerusalem is close by the shower block?  It looks as though you can park by your tent at Rough Hey Wood - if so that might be better for me.

Any thoughts/recommendations?

No opinions at all???

Ah well - I've plumped for Rough Hey Wood for the weekend of the 19th and I've found a couple of nice walks that are close by.  I'll post a review on my return

Hi there! I live very locally to both sites. So here goes..........

Jerusalem Farm is more picturesque than Rough Hey. The facilities at both sites are very basic, but adequate. The car park at Jerusalem Farm is next to the shower/loo room (can't really be described as a loo block - lol). You can't take your car into the pitching area at Jerusalem Farm, you have to carry all your equipment up/down a short, steep slope. Rough Hey is all on the level and you can park your car at your pitch or the toilet facilities, again couldn't really be described as a loo block. There are loads of lovely walks around Jerusalem Farm as it is more remote. Rough Hey is quite near a busy main road, but then it is near to shops, pubs etc whereas Jerusalem Farm means a drive for these things. Either site would be good for walking. Personally I would go for Jerusalem Farm. Either site you will need midge repellant, unfortunately.

If you want to know more just ask[:D]

jerusalem is very picturesque but is very steep to get between the car / tent / showers.
difficult if you have a lot of gear or camping on your own.
to be honest, i turned up once and then moved on to Rough Heywood.

i have been to RH four times this season so far, love it.
perfectly flat, lovely walks into ripponden on the old railway track at the end of the field, decent curry house too =)

you wont be able to take the car on in this weather, will have to be kept on the carpark.

i will be back at RH on the 19th sept as my wife is off to magaluf on a girly holiday, just me and the child for a nice quiet weekend with our new tent.

never needed any midgy spray at RH, although it is near a road you rarely hear traffic.
it is more central to sowerby where a 2 mile journey will have you at restaurants / tescos etc. jerusalem is a struggle when needing supplies

forgot to add that RH allow campfires / BBQ's in the washing machine drums provided off the ground, they do have one or two half oil barrels for the bigger groups to use as campfires.

Thanks so much - they both sound great!  Will probably check out Jerusalem Farm whilst I'm in the area!
