Right I need a bit of help peeps. Next year one trip will be a 10/12 day tour split in two. 50% nr Fort William in an attempt to get up Ben Nevis and 50% in the Lakes to get Scafell done.

Im sorted with Scotland but am seeking a site for Scafell. Now im well aware of Boot Eskdale site, thats an option but on my trusty explorer maps I see two sites on the road to Wasdale Head one just at top end of Wast water the other at Wasdale Head.

Any ideas about those two, id bet there "Very" basic?

Know the Lakes reasonably now! Usually camp at a lovely site at well cant say its too lovely you would all go! LOL But roughly an hour and a half drive away from potential Scafell routes so need to be a little closer. Idealy very close so as can wake up look out and say yep todays the day or nope have a lay in!

Im guessing Eskdale will be where we end up but any ideas about the two others?

Thanks that must be one of the marked sites on my maps from what Ive just looked at. That could be an option. Anyone know much about the place the NT web page doesnt exactly show/say much.

My head tells me to go to Boot though as its slightly easier to get to other things if not off walking. Oh I know Scafell can be done from Boot but I carry a bit too much human bagage (mrs and son) lol!

NT site at Wasdale Head is apparently an excellent starting point for Scafell.

Read the reviews on here. The site doesn't allow caravans, just tents and campervans, has only a few EHU's, no pre-marked pitches, no cars next to pitches, but your car is never that far away to be honest. Small onsite shop open a few hours a day selling basic stuff, they freeze your own ice blocks for 20p a time (I think), clean shower and toilet block with 20p for a hot shower, washing machine and tumble-dryer in laundry, washing-up facilities under cover. The shop also posts the mountain weather forecast. No clubhouse, pub or playground, it's not that kind of site. Not much else to do apart from walking, unless you drive a few miles or more every day, but the scenery is amazing, and it's a good site for relaxing for those not into walking. Nearby farm (walking distance even for lazy people like me) selling their own meat and other bits and pieces.

If your intending to 'do' Scafell Pike from the Wasdale side, go for Church Stile............ http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/details.asp?revid=4872

Drive to Wasdale Head, follow the path along Lingmell beck to the strecher box, then The Corridor Route to the summit.

If you up for a big day how about camping at the NT site at Langdale...............http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/details.asp?revid=2232

Take the path up the Band to Bowfell, drop down to Ore Gap, climb Esk Pike. down to Esk Hause, then via Ill Crag to Scafell Pike summit.

Now that's a day out [:o)]

We parked at the wasdale campsite at the western end of the lake.  A bit further to walk to the pub but good for going up scafell pike.  Scafell pike is a straightforward walk from there, but don't do as I did and make for the col between Scafell pike and Scafell - its murder going up the loose scree path.

Try The Old Post Office campsite at Santon Bridge.  We did Scafell in July and stayed there.  Need to drive to the car park nr the Wasdale Inn but it's only 5/10 mins drive.  See site info here http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/reviews.asp?page=1&revid=3647

Hi Martin

http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/results3.asp?search=National+Trust&by=sitename

Does this help at all ?

The NT used to do a leaflet about its campsites but only have a really old copy and haven't seen a recent pne.
