Hello

My OH has recently bought a caravan and we plan to go away in it for a week (next week) but we have no idea where the best place would be to go! We live in Carluke, Lanarkshire in Scotland and we wouldn't like to venture too far as it's our first time.

Considering either the East coast (Thurston Manor??) or Ayrshire way.  My OH is worried about being bored so for our first time it would be good if there was plenty to do.  We would like to stay at the site for the whole 7 nights rather than touring about.  We have a large doggy so it needs to be good for walks (beach would be ideal) and a nearby pub where we could take doggy in the evenings.  We looked into going to Heads of Ayr but they say that max size for a caravan is 21ft and our Bailey Senator is 24 ft external which is real shame as I liked the look of that site.

We are members of both C&CC and CC

Does anyone have any other recommendations? I've trawled through the reviews and my mind is now boggled and I feel like I'm going round in circles!

Many thanks
Sarah

I would have thought of Yellowcraig CC site at North Berwick, your doggy would absolutely adore the place the beaches are enormous, clean, empty, and a 5 minutes walk from the site. Or Craigie Gardens CC site at Ayr, or the Ranch at maybole south of Ayr, or Markinch in Fife, or the CC edinburgh site all  four are CC sites none of which I have visited of which but which being CC sites you can guarantee that you will have pleasant clean quiet sites with everything you could need for a first trip out.

If you want a really superb site with fantastic views you could try North Ledaig CC site at Oban, once you have been there it will spoil you for the scenery about almost any other site.

We have just spent a week on the Loch Lomond CC&C site. Pleanty of good walks. Not far to travel to places like Stirling and Glasgow, we even went up in ot the Highlands. A good place and a good base.

As you know Sarah, being in Lanarks, the west has had a lot of rain lately but we have had very little here in the east.  The sites in the east should therefore be in much better condition.

Gibson Park. CC site in Melrose. Fantastic, Great dog area on site for late night/early morning. Right in the centre of the village and the pub "The Kings Arms" is dog friendly and does good grub at reasonable prices. Fantastic dog walks along the banks of the Tweed. Our Cora was in doggy heaven running along the river and then swimming till her heart was content. The rugby club and Merose Abbey is just across the road from the site . All in all it's got every thing you could want. You certainly will not be bored

P.S. It's worth the extra couple of £'s to get the super service pitch. Your own water, waste and TV.

Hello

Thank you all so much for your ideas! You're all so helpful!  Unfortunately some of the sites are fully booked as we've left it so late but hopefully we'll be able to get into one of them!

I'm so excited! I'm sure it's going to be good but I imagine it will also be quite stressful being our first time and I'm sure there'll be arguments!

Thanks again :o)
