We have a 17 year old who is happy to holiday with us providing he can spend all day kayaking. Problem is, we don't like him being on the water alone. He's not bothered if its lake or moving water. Does anybody have any site recommendations in UK please- would prefer facilities to be on site if possible. Thanks

Dont know how far you want to travel or where you are but Park Foot at Pooley Bridge in the Lake District is on the banks of Lake Ullswater.

C.C. site at Burrs Country Park in Greater Manchester is next to an activity centre where they canoe on the river.

The above should both have reviews in the UKCS site search.

the caravan and camping club site site at chertsey in london has facilities for this, they were doing it whilst we were there at end of august and I think there is a club for it onsite as well

The C&CC Site at St Neots Cambridgeshire has a river running next to it where people where kayaking from when we went in May this year

Looks like great fun we are saving to buy one.

Have a look at GlanLlyn - a nice site with private access to Lake Bala, one of the safest places for your son. You can pitch and see the beach and lake, so you don't even have to get out of your chair to keep an eye on him. See details here - http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/details.asp?revid=1090

Mrs Fitz,

Try here http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/reviews.asp?revid=1924

It's on the river Wye in Herefordshire and we recently stayed at a CL nearby.  The site has Kayak/Canoe hire and I think tuition on site, as well as direct access to the river.

Walking the dogs along the river there were many canoists(canoeists??)  on the river, and it has a few mild rapids, so a bit more of a challenge/interest than most rivers.

Lucksall is a lovely site and the c&cc canoe group have a meet there most years. You can launch from your pitch virtually and go into hereford.

This site is next door to the white water centre near Bala. It has its own footpath to the centre and although boats cant be launched from the site itself, due to the river being fenced, once you are through the gate to the footpath there are several places you can launch from, as well as the white water centre itself. The centre is a 5 minute walk away and has a cafe and terrace so you could watch your son without getting wet yourself.

We have stayed on this site a few times and it is a lovely small site. Nice owners and beautiful facilities.

Carol
