I've just booked Spiers House for next year, when booking I was asked if my tent would fit on an 8 x 5m pitch we have gone for the standard undefined pitch. I said that the size was 7 x 7m (Hartford XL just checked and 7.5 x 7.7m). I was given the option of paying for an extra pitch but was then told just wait and see what happens when you get on site as the size wasn't that much different.

So what are the chances of having to pay extra when turning up? Seieng as it's a bank holiday. Has anyone else camped here using a "large" tent?

  Hi Alibali

We camped at Spiers House in May in the big field, to be honest it was like camping in a bloody festival field, as we got there after tea, the field was pretty full and after checking in at the shop we were told approximately where to set up, but they didn't have tape measures out and there weren't defined pitches as such.   There were lots of big tents which resulted in us having tent envy and we upgraded from our Aldi special to the Hartford L (we ended up on a slope, eeekk, which felt as though we were sliding off the blow-up bed all night)

The EHU pitches were on the other side of the 'road' on gravel pitches which were more defined, but appeared to be larger.

It is very pleasant surroundings and the facilities were very clean as expected from the forestry commission, but it wasn't for us, too big, like I said, like being on a festival field, also be warned about midges in the early evening, being in the forest and with a stream nearby, we spent the evenings wafting citronella candles and incense type sticks around our heads to keep them away, unfortunately OH is v.sensitive and his arms looked like he had chicken pox just after putting up the tent!

  Best wishes

  Sam

Hi. We went dogscootering at Dalby Forest in the summer and parked up at Spiers House for the day. I know what Sam means about the festival feel.
We are thinking of booking for a couple of days on the 'other side'. It looks a really nice place, beautiful surroundings. Forest seems to go on for miles.
