Hello.....

I have been camping (trailer tent) a few times now but tend to go to the same places. I would like to know of sites that are child friendly with nice play areas for the kids.

I like to go camping for the weekend quite a few times a year and chill out on the site with my kids. I am not too keen on having to go out for the day to amuse the kids as there is nothing to do on site. Some places I have been have stated there is a childrens play area but when we saw it.....well there was one swing so they wasn't exactly lying saying there was a play area!!!!

Please help me find some nice play areas on camp sites.....not too far from Derbyshire / Nottinghamshire

Thank youxxx

Have you tried any of the Haven sites, I've not stopped on one yet but am booked in at Springbank for 5 days, reading some of the reviews on here tho i might be making a big mistake. But i've heard some of them are ok and plenty for the kids to do.

Only other thing to do is read the site reviews on this web site, they are usually very accurate and i always have a look before i book anywhere.

I would ask you to challenge yourself on what you mean by "child-friendly" campsites. I've always avoided sites with climbing frames, swings, etc. But my two kids have never missed them.
In 2007 went to Tyn Cornel with a spacious field. They made their own fun, for example having timed races jumping from boulder to boulder which formed the perimeter around the field. When, last summer, I asked them what sort of sites they wanted to go to they simply said, "One with boulders"!!
Last summer we went to Fforest Fields and Llechrwd. At Fforest Fields the children spent ages simply fishing for tadpoles and newts with a net and playing with other children on the vast field. At Llechrwd they built dams in the river, played with other kids on the field and had to be dragged away after four hours catching crabs at the harbour at Porthmadog.
I really believe that they don't need playgrounds, never mind computer games (which my two would be on all day at home if I let them); give them the freedom for simple pleasures and to use their imagination.
(See my profile for links to the sites I've mentioned.)

We went to a site at Symmonds Yat and it had its own fenced off woodland for the kids to play in.....lovely site.....just as well the showers were good as they got filthy. Large grassy area for ball games too
