Which would you stay at for a stopover en route to/from Oban? We have stopped at Luss before so know access is easy. The big sites book says Ardgartan is sloping, is that a problem? I know it's off the route but don't think it's very much. Will the midges be about in June?

Yep the midges will be out. TBH I've never been bothered with them. Use Avon SSS and take garlic tablets. Don't use perfumed products then to the midge your not attractive.

I havn't read any reviews that even comment about the site being sloping so it can't be that bad.

The storage place I use is chocca it has all the seasonal vans there from Ardgartan I understand there's a lot of work being done at the site over the winter.I know the toilets are part of the work I don't know what else if anything is being done

So that's a positive. New toilets and a beautiful location.

 Went there some years ago and it does slope but not bad at all, there are flat hard standing pitches. When we went they had had a very wet spring so ground was soaking which added to midge problem (they wont be at there height in june), we had good weather, beutifull view. The local scots live with the midges perhaps they just go for the sassanacks !!

Thanks Margaret, I think we will give Ardgartan a miss anyway, and stop at Luss. I would much rather stay at a CL or CS but there aren't any.

Luss is much easier to access from Oban.

The road to Ardgarten is not great anyway.

It might be worth mentioning Ardgartan is a members only site for the Caravan And Camping Club and approach is along a single track road through the woods awkward if you meet someone coming out, there is a second site at Ardgartan itself which looks nice but haven't used it.

Not strictly true this statement, alot of Oban folk will go via Inveraray on their way to Glasgow as the A82 along Loch lomond is very bad and time wise there is virtually nothing between the 2 ways.  In my opinion it is alot easier going via Inveraray to get to Oban and as you will pass both site's going this way its then down to which site suits you better - im afraid i cannot assist you with this apsect.

BTW i live up in Argyll and this is the route i would take..
