We are staying here at Easter with our 11yr old son and we will also have our dog with us, can anyone recommend places to visit and eat where the dog would be welcome?

callow top is a good site especially for your boy ther is a large play field,outdoor pool and inside entertainment like pool and table tennis.bikes can be hired on site and go down the old railway line the tissington trail loads of villages of the main track.from the site ashbourne is only a15 min walk to the centre.by car the towns of matlock,buxtin and bakewell are all worth  a visit.on site there  is a pub for adults only or a club area with sky and pool were kids are allowed,shop on site be warned it will be very busy but a very good site tony

Walking is the thing most people go to the Peak District for.

There are numerous cycle trails along the route of disused railway lines. (E.G Tissington trail)

You might be interested in the Blue John Caverns. I feel these have become somewhat 'touristy' these days, but the Castleton/Mam Tor area is quite dramatic.

Matlock bath is worth a visit and so is bakewell we take our dog with us and always find somewhere to take him in with us (and he isn't small) also just outside ashbourne is hartington which has some nice shops and a pub that allows dogs in.

Dovedale is just down the road, a superb place for a walk along the river, or IN the river if your dog likes a swim.

Crich - already mentioned

Matlock Bath is worth a quick visit - already mentioned

Chatsworth - which has an adventure playground and farmyard

Alton Towers is quite close but pricey unless you can get hold of a 2 for 1 or newspaper offer. ( try www.moneysavingexpert.com)

CArsington Water has a circular walk ( about 8 miles) and a visitor centre with cycle hire and a sailing club.

There are loads of pubs in the area.  The Red Lion(s) in Hognaston and KNiveton are both good.  The Bear at Alderwasley, The George(s) at Alstonefiled and Youlgrave are good too.  Knockerdown on the road between Wirksworth and Ashbourne.
