For February Half Term, can anyone recommend a site that takes touring caravans near to London but outside the Emmissions Zone, in particular near to a station where we can get into London easily with a travelcard on a daily basis to see the sights.  I have found a couple of Caravan Club sites, but on the online booking system they are showing as no availability.

If anyone has any ideas that would be great, as usual I have left sorting things out to the last minute.

Many Thanks

Hi

There are two camping and caravan club sites that both say they are a 30 min train ride into London, there is Chertsey and Hertford, we are hoping to book the Hertford one for Easter to use as a base for visiting London. I have checked the reviews on here and they are good. Hope this helps a bit.

Wyatt's Covert at Denham is near to a mainline station into London and, also, only a few miles from tube stations such at Rickmansworth or Uxbridge. We have stayed there several times whilst visting my Father in Law who lives nearby. As well as special visits we stop off to see him when travelling to/from Dover for our Summer hols. The site is very near to the M40/M25 and so ideal for travelling down from the more northerly regions, we travel from Merseyside. The wardens are very friendly and helpful - we had trouble there with 'van on last visit last September and found them very supportive whilst we awaited a visit from a mobile caravan repair man. Have a look at the reviews.

It is worth checking direct with CC sites as sometimes they have pitches available which are not shown online!!

We stayed at Chertsey (Camping and Caravanning Club) for October half term. It is very easy to get to as it is just off the M25. London is a 30 min train ride away. The site itself is very nice - clean and modern facilities and the pitches are well laid out. It is also open all year so will be open for February half term. We will definitely go back when we are visiting London again.

We stayed at Horsley C&CC site in Oct 07 and took the train into London to visit the London Eye etc and also it was near to Thorpe Park. The site is only a short drive from the train station. I'm not sure if this one is open in February though.

Hi,

Not commenting on any sites near London BUT, if you have TESCO clubcard vouchers, use them to buy tour tickets for London. The tickets last 24 hours from time of purchase and you can hop on and off the tour buses any number of times in the 24 hours. Using the vouchers costs only 25% of the actual price. We paid (I think) £24-00 of vouchers for £95-00 worth of tickets...

Check out the clubcard deals brochure for the "days out" section...

I hope this might be of use to you, we bought ours at 13:00 on the Saturday, spent the afternoon on and off the buses and then returned to our accomodation and returned the next morning to see the rest in the morning...

It was a great weekend and not quite so rushed because we knew we had Sunday morning too... (all in the same price of the tickets).

Enjoy...

Nigel and Liz

The tickets were for "THE ORIGINAL TOUR" which have open top (or enclosed) buses running every 15 minutes to each bus stop throughout the day.... If you watch any news coverage in London you will usually see one of their buses come through in the background...

HI Martin

we're off to Alderstead Heath CC site over the half term.  Originally I tried to book on line however it was showing that the dates I wanted were not available.  I phoned up the site and sorted it out that way.  AFter reading a review on here, someone has said that there is a station a few miles away £4 per day which gets you into Tower Bridge (i think it is).  Good luck, I hope you get it sorted out.
