You can't get a lot nearer a fab beach (without being on it!) than this and about four other beautiful beaches well within a half hour plod...not cheap, but for a main holiday worth every penny...the kids will love it despite there being no 'man made' play area.

Look at the campsites own website

http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/results3.asp?search=st.martins&by=sitename

Also as you are fairly far north have you thought about Scotland...people on here have recommended some fantastic sites right near to beaches up there....Arisaig is one but I'm sure there are loads more.

  Hi Mandibren

Not sure how you feel about coming over to the east coast, but how about giving Filey a try.  The Filey Brigg touring park is situated on the cliff top, with a 5 minute walk down to the beach, there is a kids play area on the country park and plenty of 'cliff top' to ride bikes or walk dogs.  The campsite is on one half of the country park and the other side of the private road is the 'public' area of the cliff top.

I'm afraid I can't say what its like to stay, as I live five minutes away!!! but can't recommend Filey enough as a quiet small seaside town that's very safe and friendly for families, wonderful clean beach, fish and chip shops, kids rides, crazy golf and only one amusements, simple and quiet.  But also near enough to Scarborough, Bridlington, Whitby and even York for days out.

  Best wishes Sam

Try Sandyhills Bay near Dumfries. Quiet site, can't get nearer to beach without being on it, small play area, not expensive, KIDS' PARADISE!

Hi Happy Mum,

Try these 2 both found on the search on this site.  Magic Cove looks lovely but no playground and kiddies can't ride bikes on site - which unfortunately rules us out with my 9 yr old.  Porth beach is nice - I've driven in and had a nosey there - looked clean and not too big.

I've also found that using the maps on the search on this site is fab!! You can just pick the ones near beaches and then check out their website and reviews.  Also try using Google Earth to go round the coastal resorts looking for campsites - many an hour is spent in our house doing that! - Happy holidays!

Just to save you the bother Magic Cove was fully booked for Summer school holidays when they sent me the booking form in January - nice site (see my post) but as said kids cant 'play' on site but handy for beach etc.

hope you find somewhere

Jane

Rhossili Bay on the Gower in South Wales is lovely, and there's a campsite just yards from a sandy beach. It might be called Rhossili Downs, not sure.

Sennon Cove west cornwall, I am sure some tents/caravans are about 6 metres on to the sand.
