Asolutely!! You'll be in a great position to discover Wester Ross and the Glencoe area..................and if the weather is kind you won't want to go home!  If the weather is not kind you'll want to go back when it is!!  We have camped all over the West of Scotland from the top to the bottom in all weathers and still rate it among our favourite holidays.  Each year we discover somewhere we havent been (we actually live in the west of Scotland though in a more urban area).  We do go abroad, France this year for 3 weeks, but we will still go up North for a week and am looking forward to it.

Ok thanks .... In your opinion would you sacrifice a couple of days at Morvich or Oban (or both) allowing time to move base up to Brora with the Caravan to allow access to Far North (no more than 2or3 nights) .... or stay at Oban & Morvich ??

Hi, in my humble opinion I would only spend a day or so at Oban, if at all, only because there are other places I prefer.  Since you already have driven from Kent I would take the bull by the horns and try and venture as far North as poss (Durness).  It really is beautiful up there and from there you can get a wee (very wee) ferry to Cape Wrath and be at the most north-westerly part of Scotland!  I would split my time between Morvich and Brora and really do the North and far West of Scotland and try to fit in a bit of the Fort William area.  If you go into my profile you can see a couple of pics of the Durness area.  I tried to put some pics on this post but don't know how to do it, I wasn't successful with the above!!!

Sorry ... i have thought of another question, I'm hoping to be in Scotland from Monday 27th April, making my first weekend the bank holiday.
Can anyone tell me how busy places & roads are likely to be over the bank holiday weekend ??
Would i need to book a site over this time (probably Oban, Brora or Morvich) or is it still quiet enough for me to "play by ear" ?? .... I'de possibly like to be able to move on the Sunday but thinking could be a problem ??

The roads up north will be fairly clear, they usually are. Brora and Morvich have space left for all of April and May, ( you can check at www.caravanclub.co.uk ) the only way to find out about North ledaig at Oban is to ring the site. However Bunree at Fort William is already full for the vast majority of May and June. The thing to do is to book the sites ( at Brora and at morvich you will not be asked for a deposit nor will you be penalised if youdecide to change your dates later) however as North ledaig is a managed under contracts site they ask for a deposit and once you have paid the balance they will not refund if you do not stay as long as you intended ( unlike the ordinary CC sites where a refund is given).
The view at Oban is brilliant.

For a licence dated 1997 or later you must add together the plated max weight of the caravan and trailer, if the total is 3500 or less you can tow it. You may even tow a caravan with a MAM greater than the cars unladen mass the restriction was removed in 2013

Wow......I remember that view.  We were there last August and it looked just like that.  All that's missing is the ferry heading for the Isle of Mull in the background.  Wish I was there now!

I agree with Janus about Brora and Rosemarkie. Good sites with great walks along empty beaches. Possible dolphin watching at Rosemarkie we saw some within first two hours of being there. Not so impressed with site at Ullapool - was very busy when we were there toilets and site left much to be desired. scenery and location was fantastic. We went roun north coast by way of Wick, John o Groats, Thurso and Durness.

Can anyone tell me if a week would be to long at Morvich ?? ... I realise the scenery is is great & trip onto isle of sky but is there anywhere else to spend some time out of the car ...ie towns or villages to walk round in that area ??

You dont have to go as far as Fort William to find things to do.  The Kyle of Lochalsh is not far from the site so you can do your grocery shopping there. (Co-op) there is also a butchers, and fish & chip shop.  You could pay a trip to Plockton - very pretty seaside village.  The road south of the campsite leads to Glenelg (the scenery to Glenelg is stunning up over the maam ratagan pass).  Glenelg has a pub right on the shore, onwards from Glenelg continue onwards to Corran another stunning lochside location and visit Shirley's tea hut!  You could take the short ferry from Glenelg over to South Skye and visit the Otter hides.

Applecross is a must but not for the fainthearted, hairpin bends and turns up one of the highest roads in Britain.  Once at the top you feel on top of the world.  Applecross has a very well known Inn right on the lochside, The Potting Shed also in Applecross serves excellent food.

I almost forgot Eilean Donan Castle at Dornie just a few miles from the CC site.

A short walk from the site if you fancy a bit to eat is Jac-O-bite right on the road overlooking Loch Duich, very nice food and family owned.

We stay yearly in that area in a holiday cottage so any other questions please ask.

We have been to Invernahavon, it is a MUC site. The site itself is fairly large and spread out with a large tented area. We liked it there, Laggan is good for deer spotting in the evenings. We are doing virtually the reverse, Brora first followed by Morvich. Can anyone recommend which route to take from Brora down to Morvich, it would seem, looking at the map, that there are 2 choices. You either approach from the North or go down Loch Ness and approach from the South, anyone advise please?

Personal I would go down Loch Ness as far as Invermorrison and then take the turn off for Skye.  Busier, but a better road.

The other way through Dingwall and cross counrty is quieter but can be a bit awkward at times if you are towing a larger caravan.

Loads of nice scenery which ever way you decide.

I am towing a large van so the decision is made. I have been down the side of Loch Ness before but was unsure of the other route and you have just made my mind up for me. Many Thanks.

When you go to Oban I would recommend you go across to Seil and from there take the 2minute ferry across to the wee island,  I forget it's name think it's Karera or something like it.  Both are worth a visit!
