Have you thought of going on a UKCS meet. they are usually cheap rates. Or joining the camping and caravannig club. The CCC has temporary sites from £5 a night per pitch. see this thread , may be helpful.
Been there twice very basic site, two toilet (1 gents 1 ladies) no showers, allowed to have fires (take your own wood) and just a fiver a night plus it's not far away.
Hope this helps

They have a camping meadow that is lovely, a toilet/shower block and washing up facilities and launderette. They have a huge field just for children so whilst cycling is not allowed on the main site, the children can cycle in the massive field to their hearts content.

We stayes at Watermouth valley camping park in Norts Devon last August. Thought it was a great site, fab views from the dog walking area and a bargain price!
We find that Caravan Club sites are usually of a high standard and good value. Some have playgrounds and playfields for the children. Never had a problem with them unlike some of the commercial sites I could mention....
