Hi first post on here. 

We are looking for a site in north wales as we live close to chester that we can go to every other weekend.  As i finish work at 1.30 so we can set off soon as the kids finish school.                                                                                                       

We are looking for one that is within easy walking distance of a beach (closer the better) and has a few little shops about so when we arrive we don't have to drive anywhere unless we want to. The site can be basic not really after entertainment, pool ect. Mrs just wants hook-up

We are a family of 2 adults and 3 children(aged 4, 8,10) and allows dogs.

Any ideas would be a help as i am fed up with looking through the net

Nice one at Bodnant Gardens just outside Conwy.  Tyddyn Du is excellent, but adults only.  Well worth a visit.

Bodnant gardens and dinarth hall are not  a short walk from a beach.

Bron y wendon at llandulas is practically on the beach and is near to the A55.  It was once voted best in wales.  I don't suppose its cheap though.

Check out Hendre Mynach in Barmouth.  I can highly recommend this site.  We're off up there in September - 3rd visit and cannot wait.

its not near a beach, but greenacres farm park is just the job, my kids are similar ages, 5, 6 and 8 and i take my sis and niece who is 11 and my friend and her son who is 5, its a great campsite, keep kids occupied during the day and evening there is a small club house for kiddy friendly discos/bingo and free bbq's throughout the season.

You could reach Anglesey in the time you have, the island is full of cracking sites...check this sites campsite search....we go to Rhosneigr a lot, our favourite site out of the three there is Bodfan farm, there is so much room for the kids.....

You could try Morfa Lodge, Dinas Dinlle, Caernarfon.  There are not many shops but there is a bus service to Caernarfon and the beach is a ten minute walk up a country lane.  I love this site.  It has a little club house and shop as well as an outdoor heated swimming pool but the best thing is plenty of space.  Try it out for a weekend.

Another, but further away is Shell Island near Harlech.  Again no shops but it's on the beach.  It has a shop, pub and restaurant and is quite no-frills, but the scenery is fantastic.  Catch your dinner from the sea then cook it on an open fire on the beach - heaven.  The little ones will spend hours collected the thousands of different shells.  Happy hunting

I have been to morfa lodge and we enjoyed it, but it is not cheap.

st davids bay in anglesy is right on the beach, does have a little shop and a bar and restaurant, altho we have only used that once for a birthday occasion, lovely just been on the beach, especially with the children being the age that the are.
