Donna, (us again, you'll think we're stalking you!!) Went to Hoddom Castle last September. Most, if not all caravan pitches are hardstanding. We were at the top end of the site and the pitches there were gravel with "edging stones" we had a problem keeping the pegs in the awning. We did use rock pegs and hammered them in with a lump hammer, but still had problems. It was quite windy though. It's a nice site but if you're at the top end be prepared for a long walk to the showers. There are toilet blocks but the only showers we could find were in the block by reception. We went with friends and neither they or us had ever stayed on a site where you had to walk so far to the showers.
Donna - was going to say grass then rememberd that you were in a caravan.
Have a great time when you go. I can thoroughly recommend the site - and the showers, even if you do have a little walk. It's not like they are more than a 5ish min walk away.
------------- Keely :-))
Don't forget to leave a review of the campsites you have visited this year or last!
Keely, a 5ish min walk away is not great when it is pouring down and blowing a gale! Agree, it is a lovely site but even if they just put one or two showers in each toilet block it would help. The tent pitches and some of the caravan pitches are fairly handy for the showers, but the caravan pitches at the top end of the site are a fair trek. We did enjoy the site though, very friendly and a lovely setting.
Hi we goto Hoddom most years, yes the hardstanding can be difficult to put pegs into so take a hammer, the walk from some of the piches to the showers can be long but mostly down hill ! we have always found the shower block clean and as its next to the shop its not such a bad thing you can pick up the newspaper at the same time! the site is friendly and clean and has a good pub on site.
We are going there whit week for the full week.
I sent them an enquiry about 3 weeks ago and tried ringing them and have not received a reply. I was thinking they probably weren't there until April 1st when they open. Has anyone had recent contact from Hoddom? I want to book a night there in May.
