Thankfully our 5 year old loves walking, we go out for full day walks and as long as he is supplied with enough food he just keeps going, he carries all of his own gear and the only time he has ever complained was on a walk two days before he became spotty with chicken pox. Also if he's tired Daddy will carry him not me

  I have to recommend Filey (not sure if you've ever been) but we are a small town and have a lovely beach, very child friendly. 

  If you did stay at Centenary Way, there is about a 1/2 mile walk down a small track, past the horse grazing field, over a little railway bridge, past the golf club and you reach a large park, with swings, slides, cafe, boating lake, trampolines, miniture golf, lots of grass and trees etc, then down the hill to the beach. 

  There are beach accessory shops, ice cream kiosks, doughnuts and  waffles stalls, beach ponies and  cafes at both ends of the promenade.  At the other end of the promenade are kids rides and bouncy castle and small amusement arcade, as well as the lifeboat, which has a viewing platform. 

  All good stuff for an inquisitive 5 year old!!!
