Try Elm Cottage in Winsford - short drive away from Chester - I use this site when visiting all my relatives - very well maintained site - good camping field and it even has an owl garden

you will not be disapointed if you stay at thornleigh.
we stayed at thornleigh last year with our grandaughter and she loved it. they train horses there and it's great fun watching them learn to jump. you can sit and watch the rabbits and squirrels.
the farm sells fresh meat.
there is a lovely walk along the river to chester, approx 2 miles. i'm going back.
Isn't that campsite on the A483 (very near the park and ride) near the Grosevenor Garden Centre still there - wasn't it called Chester southerly campsite or some such name? Maybe it's shut now. We've been to Fron Farm, it is a nice site but then I am sure the one in Delamere is good and very good that you can get on the train.
We have also been to Greenacres Farm park for the day- it's about three miles from where we live so we haven't stayed there (but we have in Fron Farm and that's about seven miles!). Fair oaks in near Cheshire Oaks isn't it?? I suppose it depends which side of Chester you fancy. I have also been to the one near Coddington, very nice too and you could also go to Wrexham from there. Have been to the Plassey but that may be too far, too dear, too restrictive as the kids can't ride a bike or play with a ball that isn't foam - but still a nice site.

Well we have gone with Velvet Kitten and booked this campsite as it can take our large tent with EHU for £15 a night. All the reviews have been great, the site looks lovely so we are off there in July for 9 nights

Elm Cottage is a few miles from me and we did a trial set up on our new tent there last Autumn. It does have a very nice and good sized tent field. It doesn't have a playground but there is plenty of space for children to play. New toilet and shower block in 2008. Places nearby include Delamere Forest, Sandstone Trail, Shire Horse Centre, Beeston Castle, Ice Cream Farm and Candle Workshop. At £15/night I think you've made a good choice!
Hi Beezers, we have stayed at Elm cottage a few times and really enjoyed it. Nice pub up the road called the Shrewsbury Arms that does great food. Not sure of the opening times, but we went mid-week for tea and it didn't open until 5-00. Don't know if it had been open earlier in the afternoon and shut at around 3-00 maybe!
If you decide to eat here, I would recommend the chicken! It will be really fresh as there are loads of them roaming around in the garden at the back of the pub.
Be careful if you are walking to the pub as the road gets very busy, especially around tea-time!
