I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for a campsite on the West Coast and North West Coast of Scotland.
What I'm interested in are sites which:
- have an unspoilt/rustic character (i.e. the opposite of big sites with caravan superpitches)
- have clean washing facilities (they do not have to be flash, just hot running water and clean)
- minimal numbers of children (I'm sure I'll end up with some one day, but for now don't feel they add to the quality of my holiday)
- if possible allow campfires
- any other luxury aspects are a bonus I'd like to know about (i.e. access to a communal fridge / onsite meal nights / bike/canoe hire)
Perhaps this is wishful thinking for early August, but it would be nice to aim for somewhere that did not have a bad midge problem.
Thanks for any advice.

Don't forget to leave a review of the campsites you have visited this year or last!
We are doing a 2 week trip in September, most of the sites I have contacted do not require booking for mid to late Sept however I don't think that would be the case in August!
Big sands at gairloch here is the link here
dont be put off with holiday centre title, this site is amazing and will tick your boxes, the scenrey is amazing and you can set up in the dunes.

My requirements for a site are pretty much the same as yours, at least the first 3, and 4 is a bonus.
I'm not sure about fires or bikes / canoes for hire but this is possibly the best site I've ever been to.
Nestled in next to an amazing beach (as most of the beaches are on the north west coast) so even in August the midges should be manageable with the sea breeze.
If it wasn't so flipping far from Birmingham I'd be back all the time.
