Hi guys.

Just tried to book Whitemead forest of Dean for the 1st week of August and have found out that it is fully booked! How gutted are we, as we had some great reviews of friends saying it was like a Center Parks of the camping world!

So I am just wondering if there is an alternative to this site, somewhere localish to South Wales if possible? My partner really liked the sounds of the health suite facilites, pool, massages, number of restaraunts this place had. So did I come to think of that lol.....

So if anyone one can recommend a site like this or similar within a 100 mile radius of Wales I would really appreciate it.

Many thanks guys.

Dave

This may be a no no but we tried to book a camping pitch at Whitemead for Fathers Day weekend and got the same response HOWEVER that's probably because officially they only have 10 tent pitches. If you're prepared to go on a half hardstand/half grass pitch you might be able to get away with it we rang back and asked for that and they gave it us no problem.

We're lucky as we have a trailer tent (so that can go on the hardstanding and the awning on the grass) however I don't think it really matters.

We actually only live 20 mins away but fancied a quick and easy weekend away (plus we've not had the TT long) we actually drove through and around this weekend and I can highly recommend the site and the surrounding area....lots and lots to do.

Hi

I have booked for here for 2nd May for 1 week but had to book early (january) to get in. My parents tried to book a caravan pitch for the same week but left it until March and had problems getting in. They kept pestering and eventually managed to get a cancellation.

I have booked again for 17th July for 3 nts (International Air Tatoo weekend) and they said they have no tent pitches left but have given me a caravan grass pitch with EHU at the same price as it would have been for a tent pitch. Hubby and eldest son going to air show and I will stay on site with 2yr old so wanted somewhere with lots of facilities to keep us occupied.

Keep asking them and ask about caravan pitches. It might be because my husband is a CSMA member (don't know if they give priority to them).

The Forestry Commission sites in the Forest of Dean are lovely but only have the basics:- toilets, showers, shop and kids play area.

Thanks guys.

Have tried booking a caravan pitch but to no avail and have given up on this site now.

I was just wondering weather there are any other sites similar to this as in having it's 5* facilities of a Spa and restraunts?

We just came back from staying at there this easter, at popular times you have to book well in advance.  We have booked for next easter already.  A tip though is to ring about 6 weeks before you want to stay as thats when the full payment is due and they often get a few cancellations.

If you're able to travel to the New Forest I think Sandy Balls at Fordingbridge might be what you're looking for .

I don't know how to do a link but if you type in "Sandy Balls" in the campsite search it should bring it up.
