igmagib, we have used the cycle way at Naburn its based around a 10 min walk from the Naburn lock site. You could walk with the cycles on the footpath or take the car right to the cycleway park up and then your youngster would be totaly safe. Another alternative is to park nearer to york ie the race course cross over the road and cycle along the river into york. We have for the past few years done a few trips on the Selby to York cycleway, it is very flat and very safe for kids. The road from Selby to York runs close to the cyclway and there are various places you can park up and access th cycleway.
We called in at Ycp last week whilst in York we were so impressed that we have booked a weekend there in May, excellent facilities, very large pitches and very freindly. Pub 10 min walk away and a bus every 30 mins into York.

Our caravan is one of the large twin axles, the shipping length is 7.95 metres or 26 feet 1 inch. As the max body length here that can legally be towed by your average towcar is 7 metres, there are not that many vans here that will be even 27 feet.
The towcar is usually parked beside the van, so the whole outfit is contained within the length of the caravan.
With longer motorhomes the pitch needs to be longer, so that is probably why they charge extra.
I understand what you say, but nevertheless I'm with Steve on this one and argue that a car plus caravan take up no less space overall on a pitch than a motorhome by itself. Yes, the car sits alongside the van, and a longer motorhome needs a longer pitch. But equally, a car parked next to a caravan on a pitch needs a wider pitch, as width-wise a car and caravan take up twice as much space as a motorhome and there is always space left between car and caravan for getting in and out of both.
So surely therefore the amount of actual space on a pitch needed is no different? That is why I think it is an unfair pricing structure on the part of Naburn Lock.
Anyway, I realise this is off-topic now, but still wanted to put my pennorth in

We sayed at Ashfield last year and we thought it was lovely. Its a fairly quiet site with a small shop and clean showers/loos etc.Very nice owners. It is a few miles from the city but a bus runs regularly from the nearby village. We were very impressed.

I agree with Terry YCP is ideal. Big quiet pitches away from the road - many with their own water, waste & ehu. The site is fairly new with an immaculate toilet block. Access to the site is easy and only about 1 mile from the Ring road.
Coastliner Bus service is about every half hour - FREE if you have a Seniors bus pass. The bus runs through York City centre to Leeds or East Coast [ Whitby, Bridlington & Scarborough - via Malton].
There is a Pub and excellent Bakery about half a mile away, huge shopping complex with an Asda store approx 1-2 miles away.
We visited in Sept. 08 you can read my review along with many others here:-
