We're hoping to camp around Bala Lake this coming Bank Holiday-left it a little late-I know! Hoping for something cheap and cheerful-any suggestions? So long as theres loos and somewhere to clean up thats fine by us, they also need to except large tents as theres 9 children going in just 2 families! Thanks in advance!

Oh no! Have I posted this in the wrong forum? Sorry if I have-this is my first thread! Sorry!

Hello and welcome to the forum.

I have not seen all the campsites around Bala, but I have to say that one or two of them look like "tent city" at busy times. So may I suggest a site a little outside of Bala but near enough for trips there.

We went to Tyn Cornel in 2007 and were VERY impressed. It has a lovely setting, immaculate facilities and enough space for the kids to be kept occupied. Furthermore, it's just a 10 minute or so drive from Bala. I do strongly recommend it.

But take your midge-repellant.

while you are there, you could try and visit the clogau gold mine.I am unsure if it is open these days,or if people are allowed to wander around, but it may give everyone a bit of fun,to see if they can spot any bits of gold.Ask at the campsite, they may know, and, they may be able to tell you if gold panning is allowed in the river. It would be a great fun day out if any of those things are allowed.

Have a look in the Campsite search section at the top of the screen. Just put in where you want to go as a town. 23

Thanks for the replies. It definately HAS to be on the lake-"fishermen"!!! I've used the search tool already but the ones that I found worked out £50 plus(just for us 2 and our 4 kids, my brother an missus have 5 kids would even more expensive) for two nights-hoping for a bit cheaper really. I think Glan Llyn is one I've already looked at. A farmers field with a simple toilet block would do us to be honest, cheap and cheerful!

Hi. Stayed a few times at an absolute cracker of a site at Llangywer. Can't remember the name of it but it is seriously on the side of the lake and you can have open fires there and everything.

Only thing is it is not cheap but your not going to get anywhere around Bala on the cheap I am afraid. :(

Brilliant place though!

If in doubt, do it anyway!!!!!!

Hi, we went to Ty Isaf at bala last year, working farm, had a great time, clean showers/toilet block for male and female, fridge.freezer ( free use ) open fire allowed with wood supplied - free, nice friendly farmer/wife, only 5min drive to the lake and shops, also fishing on site, great for back to basic camping and cheap too.

Thanks for this! I've emailed them to see if they have bookings left! Sounds like our type of place! We went to a site in Llangollen last year that was lovely (it still worked out at £50+)- but they did'nt mind how big the tent was or if we had a couple of tents even)can't remember the name though! It had alot of amenities(shop/pub/restaurant) but we found that we only used the loos and washing facilities so thought we'd look for somewhere a little more basic this time and cheaper too hopefully!

i think ty isaf was about £12 per tent per night, irrelevant of size. and i dont even think they charged for the pup tents.

i dont think bookings were necessary as they have 2 huge fields and there was only about 4 tent between them, and that was in early august last year.
the fishing on site is a 5-10 minute walk away though on the other side of the farm.

there is also a small park area - swings and slide, for the kids to mess about on.

as freda said, the wood was free for open fire camping.

Sounds perfect! Seems they have river camping now too so we could camp closer to the fishing! Not that I'm that bothered but at least I'll have more chance of seeing him!

i completely forgot about that, there is another couple of fields down there that are completely flat..
its a little trek from the main farm / camping areas, there is a toilet down by the river camping but the showers are at the farm.
