Hi all, can anyone recommend some sites that have access to easy (flat or near as you can get!) cycling - suitable for six year olds who are still pretty wobbly - so not main roads! We'd like to be able to go out cycling as a family - only short trips obviously, but they could probably manage day trips of a few miles. Cycle paths preferable - want to avoid roads.

We're looking for the South West of England and South Wales areas - any recommendations? Thanks!

The Tarka Trail in North Devon is fantastic for small people on bicycles. It is an old railway line so is as flat as can be, but with beautiful scenery, plenty of picnic places, and  it can be done in various stages or sections. We accessed it from Barnstable. I think it goes round the coast to near Bideford. I would search for a site in those areas. We have spent many happy hours with our children on the trail, from tag-alongs to their first wobbly independent trips and beyond.

Good Luck

Try the Caravan Club site at Pembrey Country Park near Llanelli. There are miles of cycling tracks within the park and the national cycle route no.4 runs right outside. You can cycle from Pembey - Llanelli a distance of about 14 miles along a flat mostly tarmac paths with great views over the Burry Inlet ( great bird watching). Hope this is of help !!

Thank you so much both of you for those suggestions - will look at both straight away! We may start with the Llanelli area as we have family roots going back there, but I really like the sound of the Tarka trail too! So thanks again!

Does the caravan club site at pembrey allow tents though?

Not sure if its caravans only. There is another site in the Llanelli area, the Gateway
which does take tents, and has access to the cycle path. not used it myself yet though
