Hi,

Just wondered if anyone is kind enough to help me out on finding a camp site. Basically i've not been camping for over 10 yrs when i was a teenager so i'm not really in the know!

Me and my husband would like a dog friendly site so we can take our labrador Daisy. But we would also like somewhere with a dog friendly pub nearby that sells snacks/meals. A camp site that has a place to allow your dog to walk near by would be great too.I have looked on the search thingy but it doesn't say whether the nearby pubs are also dog friendly.

We live near leeds and wouldn't want to travel more than a couple of hours. we like beaches or country side places. i've been looking at sites in whitby, north yorkshire coast and the dales etc. i like the look of Hooks house farm (whitby) and Bainbridge Ings (Hawes).

Basically its a holiday for our dog!

Any recomendations would be greatly appreciated!

many thanks, Danielle

Hi Danielle

Welcome to UKCS!

I don't know much about this area but I know a woman who does.  My mate Val Bennett (who's also on here from time to time) is the woman you need.  She knows all about pubs, especially doggie friendly ones.  I'll try and guide her in your direction.

Hi Danielle,

We live near Leeds and have a Labrador and all our outings are dogs holidays!

Hooks House is a must, brilliant site and  the pubs are dog friendly and the walks are fantastic.

Riverside Campsite at Connonley near Skipton is another good one and only a short trip from Leeds.

It has fantastic riverside and canal walks and the Railway Pub in the village is dog friendly.

The Old Station Camp Site at Masham is another good one and the White Bear in the village is very dog friendly.

Knight Stainforth at Settle is a nice site and the nearest pub has a nice beer garden for dogs and it is lovely walk into Settle where I am sure you will find a pub who will let your dog in.

Masons at Appletreewick is a beauty! And the Dog friendly pub is five minutes away and the site is right on the river.

All the above are worth a visit, your Lab will love all the sites!

Val

ps sorry I am in a bit of a rush,we are about to set off to Hooks House!

I will get back to you next week with a few more!

I'd be interest to know of any that are both child and dog friendly in Angelsey - as we are off there at the end of May.

Cheers Bernie

We have just had a week at the Scarborough CCC site. Dog friendly and dog exercise field. There is a pub next door that does a carvery and also a pub about 15 minutes walk away that is "dog and sprog friendly". You can either walk along the cliffs or roads to get to it.

I only know of dog-friendly ones I'm afraid. The Stag Inn at Cemaes Bay (01407 710281) is a nice cosy little pub and the food was good when we were there. The White Eagle at Rhoscolyn (01407 860267) is a bit pricey but good food and you can take the dog in the restaurant, which gets very busy especially at holiday time so might be worth giving them a ring first if you want to eat.

In reply to the OP, Hawes is lovely and there are several pubs there you can take dogs in. Two sites - one at each end of town - the top one is Caravan Club and the bottom one is Honeycot or Honeypot or something, which is very nice. There are probably more but I only know about these two.

The Grapes Inn at Slingsby was dog friendly - well there seemed plenty of happy dog owners while we were there!

Like the sound of the dog and sprog friendly one in Scarbourgh.  We have booked the C&CC at Scarborough for 10 nights in August.  Looking good!!

Sykeside in the lake district is dog friendly! Lots of walks and loads of people had their dogs curled up by the fire when we were there in October! Although you do have to watch your step or you find the odd tail under it lol!
