Sometime ago I posted about the bike theft problem at Clumber Park as we recently were victims, I wrote to the caravan club and have had a reply:

The CC have acknowledged the serious problems at the site, and although the police patrol which was a temporary deterent they admit the problem has got worse.  They are working with the Crime Prevention Office and National Trust, and they plan to construct a purpose built bike store with card access and locable racks which will be alarmed overnight.  The proposal is now with planning Approval, if permission is gained which is believed to be formality the store will be constructed immediately,  Hopefully CC members will now be able to enjoy their stay at such a lovely site without the distress about going home minus their bikes.  The CC also commented that the facility of the 4.30 closing of a bike lockable shed was very unpractiacal to the members.  Hope this update is of some use to you all.

At least it looks as if the CC are taking positive action. Whilst your own letter may not have been the deciding factor it does show that if enough members contact the Club about a problem that they are willing to take action. Its just a shame you and others had to go through that experience. Good also that they acknowledge that the 4.30 closing of the shed is too early. I suppose with a card system it could be open all the time.

Wonder what kind of alarm system they are going to use?  Alarms going off all night is not something i'd want to listen to...

There's always one !
Hopefully the alarm will not go off unless it is broken into !
Is that not the point ?
Good for the CC, I might go back when they complete the store and the thieving scum realize they cant get bikes from there anymore, but remember they have walked around this site for years unchallenged on a night will they move onto something else ?
Watch this space me thinks.

It is nice to see that the different bodies involved are working together to combat the problem, instead of simply saying it is not their problem.

Unfortunately you're so right, aquarolls fetch good money...its just that bikes are easier to ride off , the scumbags would have to carry other stuff which means something similar to working...

Padlock your aquarolls. That's what I do on such sites.
Once bikes are no longer easy, they will nick other things.

The problem is that these scumbags are rarely caught. Catching them is the best deterrent!

Perhaps they will install a silent alarm!

Even if caught they'll only get a slap on the wrist and told not to do it again. 5 minutes later they'll be back doing the same again.

You can always fix a hasp to the underside of your van then padlock the chain to it through the handle of your aquaroll. Then again if they want it they will find away.
