Hi, I'm looking for a good beach camp site, would be really nice if the tent was near to the beach. I have been looking about the net and on here and found - This one I wonder what people thought about this one?

Or does anyone have or know of anywhere that has pitches very near to the water/beach.

I'm a sticks/bush type of camper and I'm only doing the whole (other people around me) camping thing because we now have a two year old. So I would like it to be as near to the water/beach as it could be.

Thanks in advance!

What would it be like this time of year? lots of people or no?

Not so sure about shell Island after reading some of the things online about it. It seems very hit or miss for people. I think I would personally like the wilder 'out of the way' side about it. Not so sure about my girls.

Thanks for taking an interest.

Never been myself i have seen a number of posts on Shell Island, mixed reviews.
There are 2 in Scotland i have stayed at and would recommend, Reispole (pebble beach) on Loch Sunart (Near Fort William) or Clactol beach in the Highlands (Long drive but worth it).
Use the campsite search on this site, i am sure you will find a site to meet your requirements.

North Morte Farm, Woolacombe, North Devon. It is not walking distance to the main beach, there is a pebble beach within walking distance but it is a huge trek back up the cliff path. Woolacombe is 5/10 min drive. The site is on the cliff, views fab, huge grassy fields, camp where ever you like, a bit hilly, can be a long way from the loos, but the setting is just glorious.

i have been to shell island. Its ok and does'nt have many rules to adhere to. the sea comes over the road at night so you can't leave the site. there is a club on site and the beer and food is overpriced. If you find a good spot between the trees like we did its is pretty quiet. over all the site is not maintained which is a same. had to que for showers which was basic.

Well you can camp behind the beach by the dunes at Blackrock sands near Porthmadog. There's Hillend on the Gower right next to the beach, Tristam in Polzeath as well. There's Fortrose on the Moray Firth - the beach is pebbly. Mother Ivey's bay is on the beach, that's in North Cornwall. I'd have a look on the OS atlas cos all campsites are on there. There's a book about campsites which have seaviews as well - seaview camping or something similar, it may now be out of print though.

Is this near enough to a beach?

You don't say where you are so this may be a bit too far for you. The campsite beach is brilliant for toddlers as very gently sloping. I wouldn't give up on your style of camping just yet!.....save that for the stroppy 11 years onwards...I know I am!

I'd better not mention this one on here again or they'll think I'm on commision..sorry!

Lots of great info and thank you all for it. Will never give up on real camping, army brat, so my father would just say "we are off" and we would head for the hills with next to nothing when I was younger.

Excellent - get the ferry across to Stranraer and buzz up the west coast to Clachtoll (as already mentioned by sapper). Its so worth it.

They have a website which has plenty of photos but this was the view from our tent last June. Large beach camera left and a smaller beach opposite. Perfect. The sand is really that white and the sea really is that blue.
