Hi,  I don't know if this is in the corret section.  Does anyone have any idea how far away from an Elsan point a pitch should be?  I have just returned from a site in Cumbria, with such lovey views through my front window of...................an Elsan point, less than twelve feet away.  The smell was appauling and there were another 2 caravans at the side of the point.  Surely this can't be right.

Regards

Julie

If the site maintains the disposal point properly it shouldn't smell bad at all.  If it's just an open smelly drain, as they sometimes are, then I wouldn't go back to the site however far away my pitch was!

Julie,  your post is in the right section, as it concerns all, not just caravans.

I would say that there is something wrong if the smell was bad.    I would have complained (nicely) to the warden/owners so that something could be done.
Even empting the loo I have never found the smell to be appalling

Why do we always have to complain "Nicely..."
You don't have to get angry to complain, but nicely gets you nowhere now days.

I have since learned (after loading my digital pictures onto the pc) it was not necessarily the point itself that was causing the horrid smell.  From pictures my hubby took (mainly to show the view from our front window.......the Elsan point) The man hole about three feet away from the point had sprung a leak upwards and everything seemed to be coming over the manhole.  I hadn't seen the manhole strea making its way to the lower level of caravanners.  In fact I tried to stay away, but how bad would this be in the summer.    I was not impressed with the wardens from the point of arrival so the thought of complaining went out of my head when I had already decided I would not be going back.  The smell just reinforced this decision.

Thanks to all who have replied.

Regards

Julie
