I am a new member to uk campsite although I have used their search engine to try to find campsites over the past couple of years or so. We used to have a tourer but it was more hassle than enough, so we sold it. We now have a six man tent but there is normally just my partner, me and our 6 year old son who go away (sometimes wer'e joined by my partners work colleagues and their families). We mostly go camping on bank holiday weekends (my 15 yr old daughter prefers to go elsewhere with relatives as she gets bored easily without her lap top etc...). We live in Houghton le Spring, Tyne and Wear in the North East and love to go camping in the Lake District and Northumberland. I would sometimes prefer to go further south, we also take our 9 incher Jack Russell, who isn't yet a year old and he cries constantly in the car! My mission is to find the ultimate campsite - We don't need a pub on site, I prefer to sit around a camp fire and drink something purchased earlier. We love less cramped sites and having bbq's and would love somewhere that is cheap, has basic facilities (few toilets and a couple of showers - clean of course)! And finally, a site next to a river. If anyone knows of such a place, please let me know. We don't want to travel more than a couple of hours. Please give any info if you can. Thanks Gina x

try cote gyhll at osmotherly it nice site and has a nearby resivour as well as a nice beck running through it or for a porper river try brompton on swale caravan park
cote gyhll is lovely however there are just the 2 of us we made friends with the couple in the next tent it was raining so we invited them in for a drink as there tent was really small, as the rain got louder we talked louder no music just general chat and the owner came out and went balistic with us it was about 10.15 no swearing just talking about what walks we had done that day, totally put us off never go there again, however would not take this away from the very good facillities.
Gibraltar Farm, just south of The Lakes. Very relaxed, great for kids and couples alike. No river, but it's on the coast, is that enough water for you? Hehe
Check out the reviews on here, BUT avoid Bank Hols when it does get busy.
