The reviews of this site look very good but a few older threads on here suggest the beach isn't great and not a safe place to swim.
More importantly, I was wondering what the wind situation is like - we have friends who went to a beach site and said it blew a gale the whole time - anyone know what this site is like?

The prevailing wind is Southwest and the site faces southwest, the beach is shingle and drops off quite steeply there can be a dangerous undertow when it's a bit rough. There have been a few drownings over the years when people have been swimming whilst rough. The site itself is very nice.

Hi!!
We regularly go to freshwater and I couldnt rate it highly enough. We only actually live 20 miles away from there, in Portland but always go there at the end of the season. Its not particularly windy there to answer one of your questions. Its true you cant swim off the beach, but then you cant swim anywhere of Chesil beach.....great views though! There is a pool with lifeguards and Weymouth beach is less than 30 mins away. this site is brill if you have kids say under 10, although my 13 year old twins still enjoy it. There are horse rides and good kids entertainment, take way and shop. Like I said we always enjoy our stay there so GO Go GO!!!
Very steep walk up to the road but the field is terraced so is pretty level. Would reccomend the site but not the beach for swimming. First class facilities on site and the staff are very helpful and pleasant.....Mick
