Thet stated that my tent was to large a pitch no matter what time of the year, did have my heart set on that site, having read good reviews of it on here.Oh well not to be I guess, as put me off C&CC though!!

The information you were given is simply incorrect. It is either a misunderstanding or there is more to this than you are telling us. The C&CC managers are pretty good and Clitheroe is a good site too.
I'm only saying what they told me, but I will call in there in person whilst at Three Rivers. I hope your right, I had my heart set on camping there!!

Please would you consider calling the C&CC and making a complaint - it's the only way bad things get fixed. There is also this online form. I have found them to be quite responsive and helpful. You could also try calling the call centre to make a booking...

Rather not complain to the C&CC, I'll have a chat face to face with the manager there whilst I'm at Three Rivers. Then if I get no joy I will give C&CC a call!

This issue is not unique to cc&c sites - nor is it new.  We phoned a site in Pateley Bridge this time last year to check availability.  We had camped there the previous year with our old 4 man tent, but when I asked them about a pitch with EHU for our new tent 5 min tent(Vango Aspen 500 - approx 6m x 4m), they told us this was too big.  I could not see why, when trailer tents / caravans (especially with awnings and various other appendages take up more space).

We thought that this might be something to do with fire regs possibly, but we are still confused, as some sites seem allow too many units squash up too tightly together - so is it that they want to let out the same space to a higher number of units and thus take more fees?  Does anyone have an explanation or opinion on this.

Anyway, although it was a shame that we were no longer welcome at this site we had previously enjoyed, we found other sites which we enjoyed just as much, so sometimes things happen for a reason and it is always good to try new sites.  Perhaps this experience has made me over-cautious, but I now make a point of advising the site of our tent size when I am booking, so we can be confident that there will not be any unpleasant surprises.

One last thing:  we have also camped at Manor Farm, just outside Cromer, and their electic pitches are marked out clearly, which ensures that you have plenty of space and that everybody knows where their pitch starts/ends.  It does pay to look around and see what is on offer.
