So, with 2 trips under our belt and 2 more planned, the Nissan is rammed packed with all sorts just for the two of us, and that is even with the seats down!  Now today, I have, as instructed, purchased him (the husband) a fishing rod licence.....apparently he used to fish off the peir as a kid, so I am expecting some rapid results!

Our trip to Lickhill has a river so this will be a good test - one assumes we wont need to keep the fish in the tent as you have to put them back (fortunately!), however, there will certainly be no maggots in my coolbox!!  (am I being unfair!).

Any experiences of fishing and good sites to attend - as I can already imagine a September camping experience to be booked that will also inlcude a river, and no doubt a hip flask! 

When doing the season end anyhow, or will I be asked to Camp in the real cold (even thought I thought April was cold!).

Like others, I thought you were taking the fish camping!

We once had one of those kits where you keep caterpillars in a net basket thing, feed them, watch them grow and turn into chrysallis and then watch them emerge as butterflies.  So we followed all the instructions and didn't take careful note of when they actually became chrysallis (it's not easy honest!). And then realised that the hatching out was going to co-incide with our camping trip to Bodmin.  So yup, we packed up and drove to Bodmin with me holding this net basket on my knee all the way with the chrysallis' swinging away inside.  They hatched during our stay and we took careful note of the instructions that stated we should only release them into the wild on a sunny day.  Our weather?  Rain each day.  It dawned on us that not only did we drive down with them, we'd be driving back with them too.  We packed up in the rain and only when we were putting the last things in did we notice that the rain had stopped, the clouds were clearing and within 30 mins the sun was shining. 

Whether they liked it or not, those butterflies had just found their new home .... !

fishing off the pier or sea fishing and fishing in a lake or river coarse are different types of fishing but as  you said you should soon make the change from one to the other

when you are fishing in lakes and rivers for coarse fish you don’t keep any of them so you wont have to worry about fish in the tent, as for maggots you are right not to let him keep them in the cool box and don’t even let him keep them in the tent, he can have a small cool box or bag for bait and keep them in that

the one problem that I have found on campsites with a stocked fishing lake is that all the children and a lot of adults like to feed the ducks and the lake has so much food thrown into it the fish will always be full, I know of a site in ceridigion that had some very nice carp but nobody ever caught them as they were to full of bread to move

Burton Constable campsite nr Hull has 2 lakes for fishing on site. We saw some results when there at Easter.

Allerthorpe lakeland park nr York also has fishing that I have been to.

I'm not a fisher myself though so wouldn't know what type of fish etc, i like mine battered or from Morrisons
