We are thinking of going camping in Somerset for a fortnight in July, but are unsure of where to stay.Does anyone have any recommendations of a quiet,well maintained site, no bars or entertainment & even better no kids.

Hi, a quick search in here  will reveal many sites, and most have visitor reviews enabling you to research a site that totally fits your needs.

We have stayed at old oaks in Glastonbury and were really impressed, a cracking site with a lake and  a good walk to Glastonbury tor.

Also stayed at Thorney lakes again a lovely site, a basic but functional toilet block very helpful owners with a relaxed park where you want approach to running the site. Offspring are allowed but there is no play equipment for them and when we were there last month there were only a few youngsters there over the weekend. A really nice site the only negative point it is very remote.

Thanks Ali, we looked at this site & thought it looked great, exactly what we are looking for. The only reservation we have is that all electric hook ups are now on hardstanding pitches, we have never pitched on gravel before & are not sure that we want to. They do say that they will provide you with a free groundsheet.

Has anyone else pitched their tent on gravel & how do you get on with pegging the tent down ?

We have a seasonal pitch elsewhere and our awning is on gravel.  It can be tricky but get some rock pegs and just have some patience and a little wiggling about usually finds the right position for each peg.

Thorney Lakes is lovely too, we often go for a walk around the lakes and whilst it may feel remote it is actually only a couple of miles from Langport which has a Tesco etc.

We found an excellent site - Bath Chew Valley Caravan Park, nr Chew Valley Lakes.  It is a 'Best of British' - adults only - individual pitches with plenty of plants, trees and flowers.  Wi Fi, cars to hire (ideal with motorhome) and lovely area. Well worth a visit.
