It is the easier option to visit a town on a park and ride rather than trying to park a motorhome.  However many of the park and rides have barriers which stop motorhomes.  Why don't councils realise that for most people in a motorhome this is the only (apart from possibly bikes) form of transport, and if we want to visit their towns and use their shops it is by far the best option for everybody.  I can understand that they do not want to encourage 'wild' camping on their sites, but surely a times barrier for, say 9pm would be better?

If you have used a 'friendly' park and ride (without barriers) I think it would be a good idea to spread the word!  I, for one would appreciate a list instead of arriving only to find that we have to turn back and abandon our planned visit.

Give the Dartmouth park and ride a miss. Stupidly they have made no provision for MH's even though theres no barrier. I emailed my thoughts to them and they havent bothered to reply.

I think I read somewhere that some of them will lift the barrier on request - suppose you have to ask the bus driver? Pager - couldn't you just park over a couple of spaces if there isn't a designated area with bigger spaces? I often used to park in a block of 4 car spaces in supermarket car parks etc when I had a big motorhome. Never got into any bother, just picked a quiet end of the CP.

The buses have to get into the park and ride site so surely it can't be that difficult for the operators to allow motorhomes to use that access to use the park and ride?

Obviously they don't want your custom...

The Chester ones have areas at the beginning for campervans and motorhomes.

The one at Horsham will lift the barrier if you ask at the Kiosk or even ask before you park how you can exit

 One at Dorchester no problems

caught out once in a tesco car park in Eire  normal entrance ,drove in shopped and then  followed the exit signs to find it was FIXED barrier at car height the only way out was to reverse the way you`d come as single file, the traffic  behind had to pull over for us and some weren`t happy bunnies of course No empty spaces to pull in a very embaraasing few minutes. We made sure afterwards before entering a carpark that we could get out!!!!!

Stratford on Avons allows motorhomes, my OH is a bus driver for the company who operates it and she says there are always motorhomers using it, (The parking in stratford is horrendous) quite cheap to, Its under threat of closure at the minute so the more people using it the better

The two new park & ride sites in Scarborough allow motorhomes.  There seem to be half a dozen or so parked up most days

The one outside York at the Designer Outlet on the A19 has no barrier and plenty of space for MH's and caravans.  Buses are every 10 mins and it's £2.30 per adult return kids are free.
