Hi guys

Lots of sites I have come across all seem to charge per person per night.I have a large family with 6 children, and its quite expensive to camp when the sites charge this way.

Does anyone know of any campsite that allow tents in the south east area that charge just for the tent.

Thanks Dove

All the sites I use charge per family, usually 2 adults & 2 children, then it's normally £1 for each child after that.

What sort of campsite are you looking for?

It seems as if all sites are now on this 'get as much money as possible' bandwagon. 20 years ago when I was vanning it was a per pitch charge, regardless of numbers. We will soon be paying for each container of water. I was on a basic facility site in the New Forrest recently and they charge extra for children, so for water and waste it cost me 5 or 6 pounds a day for two of them. I am sure that most people would favour a fixed charge, but then we would know how money grabbing they are getting, or we would realise easier how un-cheap some sites are. We were going to stay at Sandy Balls but with two children and a dog it was nearly £40 a night. Cheap break for 7 nights my a***

Hurst View in Hampshire (not exactly south east, I know) charge by unit, not per person. They have 3 rates, depending on the size of the tent (small: 1-2 persons, family 4-6, very big: 8 and up) and don't charge extra for "dogs, cars, gazebos, showers, kids, bbqs, small fires or sunshine (when available)".

Very sensible. I'll be visiting later this year.

Hi,

We have got 5 childrens and we have the same problem, some campsites can work out quiet expensive for us. We go to Treveague farm, Gorran Haven, they charge per pitch which works out better for us, we are going back there twice this year!!!

Hope you find somewhere
Debbie

Tony,

I have just read the reviews on here for Hurst view and £5 per adult and £3.50 per child does not sound like a per unit charge. The review was dated May 09.

The C&CC does not charge for children under six. Children up to 17 are free when with an adult in low season. Otherwise, there are is a 'Family Deal', giving a reduced price for groups with up to 4 children. Worth looking into, I think.

cobbminor

I know the review for Hurst View says it charges per person, but the tariffs on their website are quite specifically per unit. Maybe they've changed the policy recently.
