star caravan park is about 5 minutes from alton towers we stayed there when we went to alton towers and would do again.

the only place i can think of cheap tickets at the mo is tesco they are offering half price family days out

as gillychick said the star is a close site stayed there 4 years ago was OK quite a lot of teenagers about at night with nothing to do but wasn't to bad, if you koow what date you want to go you can buy the free tickets given away by the SUN newspaper on ebay for well under half price if not try online at the alton towers website it's cheaper there as well hope this helps Andy

The Star is on a hill, there are very few level sites.
If you decide to use this site PLEASE be very careful to read ALL the rules and regulations, that they send you with your booking.
Have stayed here a few times in the past, it definitely is the closest site to Alton Towers, but not really close to a shop.
Have also stayed at the caravan club site near Leek, it was lovely and not to far to drive to Alton Towers.
There is a pub a short distance down the hill from the site, they don't recommend it to the folk staying at the Star any more. Maybe have had a fallout, wouldn't surprise me as the attitude from one particular member of staff is atrocious.
Last time we stayed here was last October for Halloween, but wont ever be going back.
In the past we have got the "Staffordshire Short Breaks with long memories" brochure, it always had a token in it for the next day free or at a good discount, even at peak times. We have also used our Tesco vouchers to get our tickets. You really need to go two days to get the best from it.

do you mean callow top if so yes we have lots of times good site with nice pool and great for kids.

  Walkers crisps are doing their points offers again which includes the two for one offers at Alton Towers.

  We stopped at Peak gateway at Ashbourne, which was a pleasant site.  Was put off by all the rules and regulations at The Star (not that we are a rowdy rabble) and Peak gateway was cheaper than Callow Top, as it isn't all singing all dancing with a swimming pool.

Hi - Have stayed in the Star Campsite 3 times now. They do have lots of rules and regulations but only to stop any trouble which I think works very well.

Site is 5 mins from the front gate of Alton Towers. Star pub to be avoided if you have kids. There are a few pubs in surrounding villages such as The Cross Inn in Cauldon Low and a couple in Oakamoor and Alton.

Site is on a slope but you can request a pitch with hardstanding which are situated half way down the hill.

As for vouchers - we were at Thorpe Park on sunday and loads of people had vouchers from Burger King - paying half price. Usually the vouchers are for ALL Merlin sites so should include Alton Towers as well. Tesco have the Pay for one and get one free vouchers they are giving out at checkouts.

If you go into most tourist info site in the UK they have leaflets for Merlin attractions and most have vouchers on them. A. towers used to do a special arrive in the afternoon and get the next day included tickets which might be useful if you get there after lunch.

The best value vouchers are Teco Clubcard vouchers - but Nectar points can buy the tickets as well if you have those.

Weve been going there every year for about 20 years now and the place seems to get bigger and you will need 2 whole days at least to see all the attractions.
