Hi everyone, we are looking for a campsite to take our folding camper to. No longer than 1 and a half hours from Birmingham but nearish to the welsh coast, say an hours run aprox. Anyone any ideas? We have a dog and two kids and would need a hook up but apart from that we would be happy!

I would say you have 2 options, timing will depend exactly where you are in the Birmingham area, One is to take M6 and head towards the North Wales Coast and stop somewhere the other side of Chester.

The other is to take the A5 and head more towards mid Wales.

Have you tried using the area search option on this site. You can put in a target area and you get a list of sites within a specified distance, 10, 20 miles etc.

Thanks Tony, I think it would be the mid Wales option I have done a search but I didnt know you could put the distance in, I will give it a try. Welshpool seems good as its the right distance from home and only an hour to the welsh coast but we have never been before. I have to plan things well as both our children are autistic and traveling is an issue. We can do an hour and a half no prob but it would be great to have the coast as an option for another day.

We are about 10 miles from Welshpool, its about an hour and a half to the coast from here if you head for Barmouth area.We regularly go to Criccieth which is a bit further up the coast but still around the hour and a half mark as the roads are better. Barmouth has a funfair and arcades as well as a few shops and the like where Criccieth is a bit quieter,it has several shops and the castle but not the arcades. The reason we go there is its close to Blackrock Sands where you can drive your car onto the beach ideal as we have young children.Llandudno and Colwyn bay are about two hours from here, with Anglesy being another half hour plus on the journey depending on where abouts your heading.Llandudno is a nice place, lots of shops and the pier with a small funfair and typical seaside shops but the beach is quite stoney with a small sandy area.It does have a big prom that the kids can run along away from traffic. There are lots of sites around the Shrewsbury and Welshpool area so you should find somewhere to suit.
