Hello,

I'm going camping with my girlfriend in the first week of August this year.

We are going up to the north coast and are looking for somewhere good to stay on the west coast on our way back down. This will probably be between the southern Ross and Cromarty region and southern Invernessshire (as seen on this maphttp://www.scotsfamily.com/sct_cmap.gif).

I assume that the beauty of the west coast extends well north of Argyll, but please put me right if I really should be focussing on Argyll.

We are in our mid-20s and dont have any kids. Whilst it's nice for other people to have them we don't, and in the nicest possible way I don't want to have to put up with hoards of other people's when I'm on annual leave.

What we like is non-commercial sites (not too bothered about the facilities so long as they don't wreck my girlfriend's holiday), which are quite small, rustic, and which ideally allow camp fires.

I was hoping some of the more experienced members of the forum would be able to suggest some sites which we might like.

Although cost is an issue I'm not too bothered about a few pounds here or there on site fees.

Obviously that's a fairly specific post, but I've tried to give as much info as possible rather than just say something so general as to not really enable anyone to say anything useful.

Any advice gratefully received.

Steve

Mmmm....difficult.  I think you'll probably meet hoards of kids wherever you go at that time of year, but I know what you mean.  Our kids are grown up now and we prefer some where quieter.

The west coast is not the easiest of places to get from top to bottom without heading inland at some point.  I think I'd come down the A9 to Inverness and then the A82 from there.  You could then head for Arisaig where there are several small sites all next to the beach or perhaps go over to Skye.  Or go to Lochaline, get the ferry to Fishnish on Mull and go to Fidden Farm near Iona which is exactly the kind of site you are looking for if a little further.

Whatever you decide, I hope you have a great holiday.
