I think I may be able to help.

Clumber Park is a massive park and the best thing is to look at a what's on guide either when you get there or on the internet beforehand. There's a church, a big lake, a cafe and not forgetting miles of unspoilt forest and picturesque landscapes! (It's been a year or two since I last went so things may have altered) They often have live music on there but you'd need to check this out and see if there's anything on around the time when you go. When I lived at nearby Ollerton I used to take the dog for a walk up there regularly.

There's a small shop at the village of Carburton (follow the signs in the park which direct you to the village) which is on a staggered crossroad. I've never been in so don't know what they sell but Worksop is a 10 min drive (if that) and you've got all the shops and alehouses you need there!

I'm not sure whether Clumber has a bar or not - I don't recall ever seeing one there - but the nearest I can think of is the Clumber Park Hotel on the main A614 road (again follow the signs in the park directing you to A614) that does food, ale and weddings! I haven't been in there for a while but it was good, if a little pricey. There are pub restaurants down the road in Ollerton (Hop Pole & Snooty Fox) again serving good food at reasonable prices.

Pubs and Clubs are in either Worksop or Retford which are a short distance away. You've got Sherwood Forest visitor centre 15 mins down the road at Edwinstowe and Rufford Country Park 20 mins down the A614 all with adequate facilities for the family!

Hope this helps a bit!17

It's really in the middle of nowhere, that's why it's nice.

It'll be about 3 miles to the nearest shop, in Worksop, which in general is a cultural and culinary desert.

I've heard good things recently about the Old Blue Bell.

As far as doing things, walking is the most obvious (round the lake is good) . Another trip is to visit the Major Oak near Ollerton. If you love history and archaeology, visit Creswell Crags where you visit caves inhabited by ice-age man.

Just check what's on, they've been doing a lot of work there lately.

I used to sing in the choir in that Church

If you wanted a night out at the pub, Worksop Town Centre is best avoided on a weekend evening.

Fair point I suppose! I forgot all about Creswell Crags - I ain't been there for years! There's also Dukeries Garden Centre close by on the A60 as well.

The Major Oak is accessed from Sherwood Forest Visitor Centre at Edwinstowe - 20 mins walk from the entrance. There's also a fairground down the bottom end to keep the kids happy.17

Just be aware that Cycle thieves operate in this park.  Brings back schoolboy memories as I used to sell Ice Cream in the grounds.

We camped there a few years ago and had a great weekend.  There is a cafe in the park that opens about 10am.

If you dont mind using the car there are lots of village pubs around that serve food.  There is one on the main road to Sherwood forest that is good but cant remember what its called.
