we are going to this campsite in aug for two weeks and are really worried about it, we recently were staying in north devon so decided to have a drive down to bude to check out the town and the beaches, the town beaches looked nice but the car parks were very busy (dread to think how busy they will be in high season)17

we then drove to widemouth bay to have a look, it was nothing like the pics we had seen it had diggers doing something on the beach does anyone know if this will be finished b4 aug, as this is the beach we will use the most because of the surf.

we then drove to hedley wood to have a nose and that had diggers too17 the campsite looked run down despite having quiet good reviews, some of the pitches looked tiny and there were clusters of dirty stored caravans all over the place.

Please somebody tell me i have not made a big mistake booking this holiday as it is getting a bit late to find an alternative

any help or info would be gratefully recieved,

Good Morning

Bude does get incredibly busy in the summer - as do all the holiday hotspots on the North coast (you want to try living here!17), but the numerous car parks seem to cope pretty well.  Best beach is Summerleaze.  There's a large car park right next to the beach, alternatively there's a smaller car park (within easy walking distance) next to the Tourist Information Centre.  Crooklets beach is also worth a visit and that too has a large car park almost on the beach.  17

As you know from your visit Widemouth is a large bay with another large car park.  I'm not sure what they are doing over there at the moment because I've not driven that way for a few weeks but no doubt they are just replenishing the sand that continually blows off the beach and onto the road?!?!?17 I'm sure they will be done before the main holiday season kicks in.

We had some friends staying at Hedley Wood last year and they loved it.  We visited them on site and enjoyed the dog walk and the owners seemed really friendly.  You're right though, it's not the 'plushest' of sites but are you gonna spend that much time on site if you are enjoying our fantastic beaches? 17 Doubt that you'll be able to find another site in August at this short notice anyway????  Willow Valley Camping Park is a small, quiet site just outside Bude - they might be worth a try.  I'm sure the likes of Wooda & Bude Meadows are already full.  If you want to be close to Widemouth Bay, maybe Widemouth Fields (a new campsite - opened in 2008) will have pitches?

I'm sure you are worrying over nothing.17  The weather will be fab and you will love Bude as much as we do and wonder why you ever worried in the first place!17

If you need anymore info, let me know.

Hey Ims0110

I'm sure you will find that Bude hasn't changed that much in 9 years, it's just got busier!17

All joking aside, the town is a bit more 'alive' now and the canal and canalside areas have recently re-opened after a big clean up/spend.  It really is a pleasure to just sit there and people watch now.17

Hi, we've done Bude/Widemouth for the past 3 years. The beach at widemouth is fab-great for surfing/bodyboarding etc and you can park all day for about £4.00.They dont allow dogs or inflatables on the main part of the beach and its always clean.Loo's and a cafe too.Great for rockpooling when the tides out.

Days out when its wet(we had lots of those last August..!)-the Milky Way adventure park is about a 20 min drive and mostly indoors.About £40.00 for a family of 4 but almost everything free when you get in and we were there all day!!

Eden project is about an hour away-worth a visit.Same price as before to get in.

The Bayside pub at Widemouth had fab food last time we went.

Car parks at Bude do tend to get busy but we never had a problem parking.nice chippget some in a tray for tea, take the coastal road back to widemouth(free parking at that time)and eat while watching the sun go down!!Aaahh!!

Enjoy!
