Low Manesty at the bottom of Derwentwater - bliss. Discovered this site last weekend and loved it. Set amidst trees (note to sunworshippers - shady), 2 minutes walk to the lake, great walks straight from the site and smashing scenery all around. The area of Borrowdale is very pretty. 20 minutes walk takes you to hotel for refreshments (gin in my case), similar or less walk to small village with a couple of tearooms, launch to take you into Keswick or bus near site entrance. Wouldn't need to use your car! We were only there for 2 days having spent a couple of nights at another site but would definately return for an actual holiday. The site has no toilets or shower facilities (but does have chemical point and fresh water) so you have to be fully contained. This made for an interesting weekend as we have a VERY small camper and washing at its sink tested the agility. Definately in my top 3!

I'm sorry they dont take tents but there was another site in the area that did but can't remember the name - it was either in Grange (the small village with tearooms) or Borrowdale.
Hollowsfarm (Grange) or Seatoller Farm (Borrowdale) both take tents and are in the same area as above. Not right next to the lake but not far to walk. A truly gorgeous area.

Have fancied going to this site but never got round to it, but reading your post has reminded me about it, we usually stay in Keswick at the C&CC site and have walked to the Bolder stone in Borrowdale and had an ice cream in Grange then caught the bus back and we really liked the area, so thanks again for reminding me about it.
