Hi  As parking overnight in a motorhome on the prominade has been banned,  is there anywhere close to the Hightide Inn to park overnight I fancy a night out but want to stay close to the van. Has anyone stayed in the area and had any problems.

Thanks

Hi Happy camper

The main reason, it was free to park and it was close to all attractions and the town centre.  The locals didn't like them because they said they left rubish behind on the grass verges. I only ever stayed there twice before they stopped it and I certainly didn't leave any mess or saw any left after other campers.

Regards Jill

locals worried about the litter!! They want to look over that wall and check out the beach its a rubbish tip!!

but where the motorhomes are parked its always tidyish except for dogs poo on the grass square bits! bins overflowing, broken benches and a shelter that smells of wee!!

I'd find somewhere better to take your Motorhome Jill to be honest..I was quite shocked after my trip at whitsun to Porthcawl :(

Porthcawl needs a bloody good tidy up!!

hows about Nash Point Jill you pay a few pounds to park...and there are lovely walks in the area and the scenery is fantastic and no scum like you get at Porthcawl either!! we were there a few weeks ago and there were several motorhomes :)

We took a spin to Porthcawl last Friday.  I have never been a fan of the place but was astonished at how run down the Coney Beach area has become.

You can stay at Rest Bay overnight as long as you are in the front row of the car park at the en nearest the attendants hut.

I heard they want to turn the Rest Bay area into a campervan campsite, sure it was in the Echo last week????

Went to Porthcawl last year and the beach was full of glass and rubbish near to Wimpy, mush prefer Barry as it's alot cleaner.

Hi Happy camper where is nash point??
Nash Point Lighthouse
Llantwit Major, Vale of Glamorgan CF61 - Wales, UK

Map

Nash Point, between Barry and Porthcawl on the Glamorgan Heritage Coast has two lighthouse towers. These were built in 1832 and were sited exactly 1000 feet apart being originally used to assist navigators to avoid the Nash Sandbank, a notorious shipping hazard. The lower west light was later dismantled leaving just the tower; the east light remains in use. The lighthouse was the last one to be manned in Wales, being automated in 1998.

........................................

The walks in the area are fantastic you can go in either direction or inland...

this site above is great info on the walks :)

theres an old man who looks after the carpark at Nash point theres even a little loo and a place to have a brew :)

Excellent news if this comes off.  Porthcawl badly lacks a decent campsite. 17

Yes it's BK not wimpy 17the one at the bottom of the slope after the indoor arcade. There's the concrete round things on the beach and the steps don't meet the beach either. There were quite a few families there and we were all warning everyone about the glass, in fact I had a bag with our rubbish in and picked up a few bits and put in the bin.

I have never seen anyone empty the bins in Porthcawl, but in Barry I've seen them every trip practically by the van load picking up littler on the headland and empting the bins. Plus Barry has the toilets (with attendant) Hiyabutt bay only has a couple in the arcade (dirty duck?) and in the grubby looking pub at the fayre end. The ones on the fayre were closed last time we went and the time before it was 10p to pee17

Back to Rest Bay

Yes the Echo did say that it would spoil the unspoilt area of rest bay.
