Hello all.

A question about camping in the Lake District.
I am looking for a site near Keswick that will accept booking for 5 men, just want to relax, and to do the Go Ape activity near there. The camping needs to be in easy reach of the town/pubs, so that we can get a bite to eat.

Some site won't take us due to us been class as a group, would it be better if we did it as a 2 and 3, meaning less chance of been turned away?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Hi,
one of my mates and couple of friends stayed at a small site just outside Keswick just off the dual carriageway as you come to bottom end of Bassenthwaite lake. Will ask him the name when I see him at work.

I thought it was at Grizdale too but Grizedale is way away from Keswick

Coniston would be a nearer place to camp or around Windermere/Newby Bridge area.

Campsite was Scotgate, think they(four blokes) camped in overflow field.

Hawkshead would be more central for Grizedale, and handy for the pubs.

What about Borrowdale at the bottom of Derwentwater.  We were at the CC club site there last weekend and absolutely loved it.  There is another site just down the road in Borrowdale, cant remember the name.  Within walking distance to a hotel and loads of great walks in the area - we loved it!  You can also get the boat launch into Keswick or the bus if you fancy the refreshement without the driving!

See, that was why I asked as I though I'd remembered reading something about it (given up reading any sort of newspaper)

In that case there is (or was) a campsite right at the foot of Whinlatter and there is a pub right there in the village - if it's still there.
No idea what the name of it is though.
