Hi

I am really fed up of looking for campsites!  Have I left it too late to book a weeks camping in Aug (22nd for 7 nights) which is a nice family site with EHU for tents!  Everywhere seems full and there hardly seems to be any choice.  Fed up now!

We had such a nice week in May in South Lytchett Manor near poole - wish I could move that site to the Lakes!!

then our other week in July which we are supposed to be going with friends to the Gower - the site is not bookable - which worries me a bit as we are going sat of the first week of the hols - so if I can't get a Lake District site for Aug - I doubt I'll get a pitch on the day on that site - and would be gutted if we have to drive home again - so might not be able to go camping with them if they insist on that site!

Anyway just moaning - and fed up!

Any site suggestions for the lakes or the gower, suitable for young family, with EHU and not booked up!?!

Ange

Due to the credit crunch, a lot of people are opting for camping and caravaning holidays in the UK instead, so I am afraid you may be out of luck.

However, good luck with finding a suitable site and pitch!

Now I'm not a tent camper but it would worry me just turning up at a site..... travelling all that way to find the site full.  Some sites in the lakes do the same thing and the lakes does get full in peak season...... do you need an EHU as if you are a member of the C&CC they do summer rallies...... if not don't give up as some bookable sites may have cancallations nearly the time.

We have a pitch available for that week if it is of any interest. Please see http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/details.asp?revid=1634 for details on the park.

thanks for your replies! (thanks for the suggestion Jasmine Park - but we need to be within a couple of hours of both Chorley and the Wirral)

We are now not going to the Gower - can't be doing with not booking in advance!  But our freinds are still going for it!

We've booked here http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/details.asp?revid=1459 for July and still searching for the August one!

Hi - I have been looking at Knights Stainforth and they have limited availabity - so at least thats more positive than full!!

Just wondering what there is to do in that area - that would keep a 5 year old amused?  We like walking and biking - but in small doses!  We also like houses/gardens and castles and the like.  There is the settle railway.

I have learnt my lesson this time - and will book well in advance for school hols in future!! :)

I am from the lakes area, And tbh i think you would really struggle for pitches now. You should see how chocker the roads get around this time of year with caravans. I wouldnt be tempted just to turn up. Use the campsite search forum on here.

Do you really need EHU? Might be worth rejigging your kit a little so you're not tied to it in the future. It does open up your options an awful lot if you don't need it.

Hi,
if you end up in Yorkshire, forbidden corner near Middleham is a good family day out with the bonus of maybe catching the horses on the gallops.

Hi All

Ended up booking Park Cliffe near Windermere - non EHU - as decided location was the important thing!!  We have only got EHU this year - so we'll survive without - after all we have for the last 15 years!!  Just have quickly got used to having a cold cool box (and cold milk on cereal) and a bright strip light this year so far :)

Thanks for all comments! - now that the booking is out of the way I can look forward to the trips - campsite booking was sooooo much easier before the internet - I just browsed the Alan Rogers guide and that was that!
